What is a captain of crush? Is that a breakfast cereal?

Captains of Crush grippers are sold at www.ironmind.com and like the HI khukuris, they are the best of their kind.
They are built super-tough and have set 'weights' needed to close them. The Trainer takes 100lbs of pressure. the #1 takes 140lbs, the #2 takes 195... I have those three and haven't been able to close the #2 yet, but I can close the #1 righty and lefty on a good day.
Building up grip strength has helped a lot with the metacarpal syndrome I was getting from working at the computer all day.

Captains of Crush makes 2 stronger grippers... 280lb and 365lb... so far only one man has closed the 365lb, grip master Joe Kinney.
Only a few dozen have closed the 280 pounder.

I recommend them if you have trouble hanging on to your khukuris :) they're also good exercise when you're sitting at the keyboard!
Start with the 100# trainer, it's tougher than you think. The generic grippers you find at sporting goods stores are like toys once you start training on these.

100 lbs of pressure for the smallest one? Umm.. do they sell a children's or senior's version?

Maybe I'll have to find a Captain Squishy to start with. :(

Well, they do sell a "stress ball" thing that is pretty good. It's not too soft, but you can build up your strength with it. Or you can start with garden variety grippers until they no longer challenge you. Then you're ready for Captains of Crush.
They also have a book on grip exercises that has some freebie exercises that you can do using tools, buckets of sand, etc.
It's fun and produces results pretty quickly.
When you can open this jar, grasshopper, you may leave. ;)

Stripey dont let Bruise fool ya. He pretends to be all timid, but I betchya (hey Im Minnesotan) that he scoffs at the 365 lbs gripper as a childs toy. The man eat deer whole for Chris sakes.:D  :p

I'm a jersey boy, but I lived in the twin cities for six years, doncha know? ;)
The skeeters up there can eat a whole deer!

Four of the five Marines deployed with either a one or two day notice. That is the reason for the lack of ceremony and pictures in my office. I also take the hit for “red eye” as I’m not a trained photographer J.

Getting our computer net onto a civilian contract has problems. One of which is downloading digital pictures from my camera to send to Uncle. The other one is access to the web for all. What I did was print out in color safety sheets and augmented the pictures with a few more from the Naval Safety Center and make them all read the package.

Sgt. Olah our barracks manager. She is setting up a field orientated competition for the NCOs and the Khukri she has is the prize. She wants one for her own but she is not deploying and hasn’t done the “Gungy” things, either is the criteria for the donation of Khukri to NCOs and below. She is an outstanding barracks manager and has made large strides in improving the quality of live for the Marines and Sailors living there.

The ones picked seemed to be along the lines of MOS and what they would be doing or other tools they would have access to.

I finally escaped my Mahogany fighting hole and got up to Camp Hansen range 4 today!!!!!!!!!!! Our EOD and division invited me. I only shot 20 rounds out of a DMR (we’re still short training ammo and I feel bad taking ammo but the Marines filled two mags w/10 each out their own allotments so I couldn’t turn them down). One mag at regular targets at 200 meters and the other smutting UXOs at about 275, I tied the high score and had a better percentage so I don’t feel too much like a staff weenie.

S/F, Mike

PS. I took some pictures and will send them to Uncle when/if the computer will let me down load the.

Actually, I'd like to go a round or two (in bed) with that top Marine.

I'll probably get court martialed for saying that.

Man, does it make me happy to hear that kind of talk from a guy your age. Kinda gives me hope. (Does Yangdu ever read the forum?)

And if you're not in the Marines, and you're not her CO, well...;)

Hey, wasn't there a fund going to send khuks to the troops? Do I owe Uncle some money for those?

Very seldom or I'd have to be more careful.

I'm old but not dead and one of my mottos is "use it or lose it."

It makes me feel old when we have brand new NCOs who weren’t even born when I 1st earned the title Marine.

I feel older still when I have to sweep up the stragglers on squadron runs, being tail end Charlie with the accordion effect up and down the hills while moving up and down the rear portion of the line…

On a brighter note a young lady (perfectly legal from all aspects) asked me if I would take her for a ride on my bike Saturday afternoon and then grill out for her. Why yes of course I might be coerced into something along those lines.

Sarge,

I found out she had the Tally before I did. I must be getting old when I don’t notice targets of opportunity and they have to make themselves known.

Kind of have to prove myself on a regular basis around here, the old pilot. Jogged in from home to work Friday in boots and pack (54 lbs. on the scale), 12 klicks in 72 minutes over the hill. Kind of like you hanging out with the grunts. Didn’t hurt myself bad enough to negatively impinge Saturday’s activities.

Pilots might also say, "Going to burner" or "going to plug". It'd be nice to be on her "six", but enough of my impure thoughts.

I hope she didn't pull the kukri out of its sheath holding it like she is.

Great pix and I wish I could share the feedback and pix I got from the guys I sent kukris to who work a little differently than most of all those brave military folks. They tend to discourage having their pictures published, but trust me, they're a great group of professionals.

John,

Don’t know your time line. The 1st time a sultry female voice gives you the “cleared to plug” call can be distracting, better be smooth air, clear, and away from the sun line J.

Had another female Sgt. in here this morning. She was a little late for duty and acting 1stSgt. (a GySgt.) verbally counseled her. She was a little upset. I asked her if the facts were correct, she confirmed that they were. I then told that the GySgt. was perfectly within his rights and responsibilities to take off a piece of her rear end in a posterior reduction. She then changed the object of her concern, “Sir, you don’t think I have a big butt too do you?” The new Marine Corps!

Sgt. Olah was handling it outside the scabbard and picked up the scabbard for the picture.

A few that Uncle sent have gone some who would prefer to remain faceless. One of our CWO’s has a kid brother w/2/75 and sent it along. A couple have gone to friends who work for the Peace Corps with guns. Some have appeared in print/media and have been mis-id’d by the brilliant media folks.

Mike,
My time line started with, "OK Wilbur, I think it'll fly", but you're right about praying for smooth air and not getting blinded. Even plugging in to the gas passer (Navy...unlike the Air Force weenies who had someone plug into them)got all bouncy and burbly. The vortex formed around a KC10, KA-6, and various "packages" could always be surprising. Always avoided looking into the sun if possible, but don't forget it was always a racetrack pattern so you'd eventually "go stupid". One ultra full and bright moon literally made the plug lights on the basket disappear during an interesting evening event.
Gotta love those "Flying Texacos" though. Kept me from going for a swim when I had to "wet refuel" once. Took me right back to the boat as gas was pouring out almost as fast as it was going in. Some very angry guys decided to put some holes in my innocent, but trusty steed.

Semper FI, but don't let my shipmates hear that.

And the basic black sheath is a classic; goes with anything formal or informal.

John,

Always try to get plugged before looking into the sun. The boats are down to buddy stores on S-3s and F/A-18 E/F. Should have kept the Iron Works in business and we would SEAD acft. Never flew a Turkey but was rather unpleasantly surprised when showed up with the new engines and they didn’t fall out in ½ a turn in the rocks over Korea during Team spirit. Still think a D is probably the best production fighter in the world when looking at all missions.

I had a night mission, landed at night and walk around showed nothing. Went the next morning and the GySgt. said “Sir, come take a look at this.” One approx. 30 cal. hole in an access panel below the nose gear, right through a rivet. Got the panel off and traced the round up. It hit the nose axle, ricocheting up into the throttle quadrant damaging three cables. I had no idea, being blissfully ignorant.
