Hey Damneddesigns, I hope you can find a way to "keep on keepin' on" around here. This thread was clearly about you opening up yourself to criticism (being here, you know it will come, some good, some bad) and being ready to possibly get hammered. Good on you. As a cabinet maker that used to make art objects and furniture of my own design, it is MUCH, MUCH harder than people think to put your work out for criticism.
Don't let your work or your efforts be hijacked (as in this thread) by those who want to make their personal view on economics, politics, or their populist moral pulpit hammering get you off course. You ask about your knife and its design and you get comments on China. Sigh. I am tired of those that feel their opinion is so important that they have to change the subject, hijack the thread and ignore the intent. Yet, they are too lazy to start their own thread on the subject that they redirect to.
Stick with it! I can't imagine the hours and hours and the personal investment you must have to get to the point you are now. There are a ton of really good folks that offer their good opinions and quality advice here. I hope you have great success (like all your designs so far) with your efforts.
Look at it like this; if you have your knives made off shore, you still have them shipped here to a holding point (where they are off loaded by Americans) and then checked by U.S. Customs (more American jobs), shipped to a distributor (a few more American jobs), the shipped out in boxes made in the USA (a few more jobs), and delivered by US employed delivery people. So in your way, you did your bit for the good old USA. It would be great if it were affordable to have your knives made here, but it is what it is. Should you give up because you can't satisfy some with their China views? Neither can Columbia River Knife and Tool, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, etc., etc. You are in some pretty good company.
Besides, the question I always ask of people (being an employer for 40 years now) is , "how many jobs have you created or supported?". You know, I am really trying to get a measure on their commitment, their actual level of contribution that we can clearly identify (as they like to do) such as jobs created or supported in their daily lives. Its pretty easy to support causes on your phone, computer and social media. Don't lose sight of the fact that the ancillary jobs you create with your knife company have value, especially at a time where jobs are needed.
You have been an astonishingly open book to this point. Good on 'ya! More stones and patience than I have these days. Stay strong and keep up the good work!
Robert
