I'm looking for a fixed blade from a fairly reptuable company with a blade from 4 to 5 inches long! I'm looking to spend about $30-$40 but $50 will be my max. A Ka-Bar is out of the question...lol

Check out the new Becker BK-10 due out next month. Looks like a real winner for around $45. I'm know there are alot of others but I believe but this one will be hard to beat for the $$$.

I've got a Buck Vanguard R that I think is a great beater knife. The sheath isn't the best, but it works.

UPS just dropped off my new Becker BK9 today. It's a little bigger that you want but the BK10 would be more to your liking. The BK9 is a hefty knife 9in. blade and 18.25oz. and built like a tank! I'm sure you'll be happy with the BK10.

If you want cutting performance, extremely comfortable handle, nice light carry, and about 4.5" of blade, go for the Mora 2000. The steel is Sandvik stainless, and keeps a wickedly sharp edge for quite awhile. I have lots of fixed blades, but keep coming back to this one....

I'd check out the Kershaw Echo or Vertigo as well. Almost bought one myself. You can pick them up online for less than $30.

(eknifeworks.com) Smokey mountain knifeworks feb 2003 catalog - page 8 has advertised as a closeout a - Buck mini-Nighthawk for $19.99
