400 hours of overtime will buy a few toys

Well I am back to a normal schedule again. I worked over 400 hours of overtime before march was done. Finally got some time off today to assemble my new toys the overtime bought.

First I got a real welding station since having small jobs done was costing a small fortune. Plus buying equipment I could have built myself was really irritating.

Finished just in time. Moving around the treadle hammer I bought from Uncle Al's made the bottom die come off. After looking at it closer it had some bad welds. There is almost no penetration on the round stock. Good thing I got the new welder, it already has a job to do.

I got both heat treating oven set up. Well one. The other is going to have to be rewired. Even though I have 220 in the shop every 220 outlet is different for some reason.

Benchtop sand blaster. When I get the crap put up on the bench behind it, it will have a nice table to sit on.

My old behemoth of belt sander. It uses a 2"X132" belt. It has a 3 phase, 5 hp motor to move the belt and will eat steel like no tomorrow, and fingers. It needs a to be rebuilt as well before it can be used again.

I'm hoping to go to the blade show and test this year for JS. But time restraints are making it doubtful, but I'm still going to give it a try. I still have two steel work benches to build. Rebuild the end mill and set up the forge before I can start. I plan on taking vacation for most of the month of May. So maybe I can make the deadline.

Congrats on the new toys! Maybe you'll be feeling generous and decide to donate some of your old ones ;) Might I add that that belt grinder is MASSIVE.

NICE SHOP!

but man.......400 hours of OVERTIME? what the hey do you do??? i dont think i worked 400 hours REGULAR time in the last five years.....LMAO!

I really like your hold down table for welding . Thats cool.

The welding table is made by miller called there arc station. I bought it because I needed someplace to start and with all the overtime I had absolutely no time to make my own. Now that I have it, I can honestly say it way overpriced. It should be about half the cost. The hold downs are cool though. You can buy the hold downs pretty cheap on ebay or through any welding supply store. The x table would be easy to build on your own, so you could use there hold downs.

I'm a control room operator. The power industry is so lean that most CRO's and outside guys pull about 600-1200 hours of overtime a year. Power plants are always losing people to retirement, burn-out, and sometimes people do stupid things and need to be fired. If your looking for a job, the power industry is always hiring, and firing.
