Sure, it was my Beer Scout in beer-barrel covers. I don't have it handy at the moment, I'll have to add a pic later if I remember. Those are very hard to find, even today and command a hefty sum in either filthy lucre, or trade bait when you do. They will never be made again (given how the BSA took legal offense to the name). Being a hobbyist alcoholic huge fan of stouts, I had to have at least one.

id never wouldve guess that!!! ha, i love beer or at least used to, ipa fan, but ive always felt that there is a $1 key chain that i keep on my person that does way better than that caplifter. ironically as much as I love 15s, my beerscouts left ages ago, hindsight 20/20

Aaaarghhh! I should've left mine pristine, MIT as it is it's filthy, done its duty and got 3 pin cracks in the course of the years (not from dropping or banging I might add..) worthless now😢 and never to be made again....

I think my most expensive knife was in the upper $300s… a fixed blade from a custom maker, and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. But I checked “I’m not spending $400 on any knife” in principle, because I can’t see myself paying what many folding knives are bringing especially on the secondary market.

$400 is a lot of money and can buy a lot of knife if you spend it right. A GEC is a good knife and was fairly priced new at $100. I may hold my nose and pay $200 for the model I’ve always wanted… but $400? I’ll put one of my many already-owned knives in my pocket and go buy a gun.

After recent experiences, I think I'm done spending more than $150 on any knives at this point. And really, I don't think I'd spend $100 unless I could be sure that it was well made.

Things have got very complicated here. If I spent the British equivalent of $400 on a US-made custom, it'd probably cost me another $200 in import fees, tax, and handling charges :( The same from mainland Europe I think now too. I can think of at least one British custom maker I'd buy from, but their books are full to bursting point. Knife show coming up in October, I'll save my pennies for then ;)

To me it all depends on what I'm looking for.

If I was going to carry it? Case Bose everytime.

While I personally would never spend $400 on a GEC, I suppose if it was the last one in a "collection" that you need I would understand, and if I wanted a unique piece of art I would say custom.

I should mention that I have sold several GEC's for over 400 dollars and for the life of me don't understand it. What's the saying? A fool and his money are soon parted? 🤣 I think the most I have spent on a GEC was a hair under 200, and honestly felt that was a little much but at the time I reeeaallly wanted it

I chose Case-Bose collaboration but I've had a couple Bill Ruple knives in the past. I sold the Bill Ruple customs but gifted the Case-Bose collaboration knives. I wish uncommon or rare Case knives had been a choice in the poll as I've paid $400.00 plus for a collectible Case knife. Those are to be passed down to a grandson and a couple of nephews

3 pin cracks! That must be a heart breaker. My commiserations.

You have only just worn the new off. I think it has only just begun demonstrating it’s worth.

I wouldn’t spend $400 on any folder. I might spent $400 on a Carothers field knife if my fingers were fast enough to get the chance to buy.

I have carried a knife for the last 50 yrs and wasn't a collector until 4 yrs ago. At first, I had a real hard time spending 200 on a knife. But sad to say, I have quite a few that I have spent 400 or more for and they are well worth it.😁

Haha I was drinking beers with a friend one night and gave him my beer barrel version. Saw what they are going for at one point and messaged him that he better not lose that thing!

voted custom maker. Would entertain a well built custom at that price. I do have a few GECs I’d like to collect but my ceiling for GECs are under 300.

My Bose/Case Lanny was and still continues to be my favorite traditional purchase, but I don't see myself spending that much again. Well, I did spend about that on a Don Cowles tiny fixed blade pearl this lst year, so Maybe, if the right knife comes along... Either way, that's a bit steeper than I feel comfortable with spending more than once in a blue moon.

How do you like the Cowles?
