My first traditional that I bought for myself before knife collecting was an obsession for me was a Schrade LB7. Everyone back then everyone carried Buck 110's and I thought the Schrade had a better finish to it.
Thanks for the chance 2brothers and congratulations on your 4000th post.

My first traditional was a hollow-handled camp knife, I'm pretty sure it was an Imperial. Long lost, but it whittled a lot of tent poles and stakes, not to mention crude bows and arrows.
My first knife purchase was another Imperial I think; we're talking 50-55 years ago! A barlow, with a clip and a pen, and a plastic or composite handle.
Congrats on the big 4000, Mike, and thanks for all the contributions!

Not sure whether I qualify as a regular contributor or not, though I'm working on it. Either way, thanks for the generous giveaway, and the abundance of interesting posts.

Unlike so many knife-knuts around here, my father never had a pocketknife, so I had to discover them on my own. When I was around seven years old, I saw a Case display in a hardware store window and it stopped me in my tracks. I must have stood there for ten minutes with my mouth open, just staring at those beautiful knives.

I saved my allowance for over a month until I finally had enough to buy a little bone-handled Case knife - probably a 6279, along with an Arkansas oilstone - and it was my constant companion for many years. Sadly, I have no idea what became of the knife, but I still have the stone after some forty-five years to keep the memory alive. Come to think of it, this may very well be my oldest self-purchased possession.

I can't remember the brand of my first slippie. When I was a kid every boy pretty much had a "Jackknife". The first brand name I can recall was from my parents, a Camillus Cub Scout Knife. Wish I still had it. Wow 4K, now thats a lot of contributing!

My first traditional was this one.

A bone handled Tuxedo pen that I found when I was about six years old, and which I still have.

The first one I remember buying for myself without parental supervision was a Buck Trapper back around 1970. I have no idea where it is now, but I still have a scar on my left index finger from it.

Congrats on 4K, and thanks for the chance!

My first quality slip joint was a Case Copperlock that I got in a trade. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on 4000.

Hi,

My first knife I found in an old barn. It was an RS3333 Remington scout knife, I still have it!

Congrats on 4000!

Thanks for the chance, and congrats on 4K posts too!

What was the first traditional knife you owned?
A very old [even at that time] Case single-blade liner-lock Hunter I got in a trade, when I was 12. Great old knife, got a lot of use out of it, & traded it later. It started my career in knife-trading as a kid.

thx - cpr

My first traditional knife was a Buck 110 around the age of 13. Cut myself regularly with it. Now that I am older, it is another traditional knife, the knife that hooked me into collecting, is a Case 6244 Texas Jack. It has delrin handles and CV blades it is a 4 dot from the 1976. I blame that knife for my financial woes, and my current state of contentment. Contentment because I have 3 knives en route currently. Once I recieve my knives, and I have no more coming in the mail, my contentment will be then be fleeting. Thanks for the give away!

My first knife and first traditional are the same knife. It is a Sabre (Japan) Daddy barlow that I got about 1970 when I was 12 years old. I can remeber riding my bike up to the Dollar General Store and buying it. They had a glass display case with about 6 Sabre's all costing $1.00. I still have it. I never really cut much with it I just thought it was Cool.

Thanks for the chance!
My first traditional was one I bought for myself, so same answer for both questions. A Imperial Jack knife with the a fake MOP wrapper for scales. Looks like the one in this picture:

Congratulations on 4K, and thanks for the chance:thumbup:.
My very first traditional knife was an Official Cub Scout pocket knife with blue plastic scales. I haven't seen that knife for about fifty years, but I still have the scar on my left thumb that convinced me to always cut away from my hand.:o

I'm still a newbie but been trying to contribute, so I hope I can qualify for this. Thanks for the giveaway!

My first slip joint is also the first I ever bought. It's a Case teak wood peanut. After seeing so much praise for the peanut here I decided to buy one about a yr ago. I love the peanut even though it can be a bit small in my hands at times.

Congrats on the 4,000 Mike...

My first was a stag handled Case sheath knife I got from a good friend of my Dads when I was probably 9 or 10 years old.
I gotta be honest, I really can't remember what the first one was that I bought myself

Great giveaway. I don't recall seeing a toothpick offered up before

A Sheffield single blade jack with a picture of mountie on it. Blade was black with use (loved carbon blades from the start). First knife I ever bought for myself was in 1974, another single blade jack with green celluloid scales, this one was stainless. Picked it out of a basket in a tourist trap paid I think $2 for it. Wish I still had 'em both.

Here is mine, not a slip joint knife like alot of you guys, but still very traditional. My Grandpa made it and gave it to me:

Mike,

Congrats on the big 4 grand. I still have a long ways to go.
The first traditional knife I own was a chinese friction folder. I got it when I was 4 or 5. The first knife that I bought with my own money was a CASE Yeller Soddie JR in CV. Still loving it.

God Bless

First knife was an Imperial Barlow given to me from my Dad 40 years ago...a few years ago I gifted that knife to a nephew. Still walked and talked after all those years and probably has 97% of the main blade left. I also gifted a Barlow to Dad last year to thank him for that Imperial so many years ago...he got a Russell in stag.

First knife I bought for myself was probably another Barlow, Prov Cut. Co. most likely.

Oh...and just for the record? The last knife I purchased (earlier this week) was also a Barlow...lol.
