4000th Post Giveaway

Congratulations on the 4000 milestone! That's a great accomplishment.

My first was in the 70s when I was a Boy Scout, it was a cheap, hollow-handled Kamp-King (Ulster made?). We didn't have much money, so it was what I could afford at the time. It must have been carbon steel since it could rust, but it sharpened and held an edge like cheap stainless. I didn't really care for the knife, but didn't know about quality cutlery as a youth so I just put up with it. I was delighted to find this forum and discover quality pocketknives that would perform well and look great!

My son now has that Kamp-King as a momento.

Thanks for the chance.

My first was a sak classic. And the first traditional I bought for myself was a Imperial Fishing jack knife. Thanks for the contest. Congrats on the 4000

What was the first traditional knife you owned? A mini-stockman, but I couldn't tell you the brand. I'm sure it was a knockoff because I was rough on stuff as a kid. I broke the pen knife off in a hurry. It's buried under a ton of "sentimental" stuff in the basement.

What was the first traditional knife you purchased for yourself?Fallkniven U2 was a first slipjoint, quickly followed by a Boker Barlow and a mess of soddies.

Congrats on the 4K.
Please don't count me in, I have won my fair share here already.

The first knife I purchased and owned (1963?) was a Rogers pen knife with the paper MOP with a single 1" blade for sharpening pencils.

The first traditional knife I owned was an old hardware store Barlow. It may have been an Imperial. An old neighbor of mine that I thought of like a grandfather gave it to me. That was over forty years ago when I was about six or seven. My first traditional I bought for myself was a Schrade Old Timer lockback that I bought when I was twenty and starting my Millwright apprenticeship. That knife has, I think, fake bone handles and I still have it after all these years. It is the knife at the top of this picture of some of my slippies. Thanks for the chance and congrats on 4k postings.

Schrade 154OT drop point

My first knife was a Camillus Boy Scout knife
and the first knife I purchased was a Boker Jack knife.

Thanks very much for the chance.

My first traditional knife was a Ka-Bar swingguard. Bought it new in the mid 70s. Still got it, too.

Hmm, the 1st I actually bought, my Daughter ended up taking for herself, but the 1st one I bought for myself initially (My Daughter now has it in her collection), is a Case Seahorse Whittler in orange G-10 with Wharncliffe main blade.

I can't always figure what is traditional and what isn't on some knives. Of course the obvious one are obvious. I am not sure about the one I am thinking of. But I will post it and if I am wrong, you all can do what you want to me.

Back in 1987, one year out of high school, I thought I wanted to get into archery. I placed a huge order with Cabelas. What I ordered to clean whatever I shot, which eneded up being nothing LOL, I bought a Buck 110. I have used it ever since. Even slit my wrist and passed out from the blood loss. No, it was an accident. I was cutting some thing the worng way and it slipped and it went into my wrist. The bone is what stopped it from going completley through. I did maintenece work most of my life up to 3 years ago. I carried it with me a lot. Did all kinds of jobs with it.

If that is not concidered a traditional knife on this forum, let me know and I will edit my post with another one.

My first traditional knife was a 6-blade Imperial scout-style knife that my dad brought me back from one of his over-the-road trips when I was 11. I still consider it one of the jewels of my collection.

My first was an Old Timer 33OT Middleman Jack. I was 8 (1984) and we on vacation up in Schroon Lake. I think my father decided that it was time for me to get my first knife because he got sick of having to come over to cut my fishing line every 5 minutes with his nice Puma lockback (which I'm presently trying to reclaim from my sister), so he brought me to the local 5 and Dime and let me stare in the Schrade case for a bit before he decided for me. Man, I love that knife. I gave it to my daughter 2 years ago. She used that thing all the time, kept it oiled and sharp, and then puberty hit. So now the knife is sitting in one of her drawers waiting for the day that the teenage nuttiness finally gets out of her.

Thanks for the offer!

The First I owned was an two bladed Imperial given to me by my great grand father before he passed away. It was already beat up but I still have it.

The first one I bought was an Imperial Boy scout knife used, but some other kids had four bladed ones so I bought a Camillus four blade but without the cub scout insignia. When I made it to the Boy Scouts I bough a Ulster Boy Scout with four blades. Still have all four.

I might just end this one tomorrow. I sure would have figured for more entries. :o

Looks like the 30-something entries have a good chance. ;)

First Traditional pattern I owned was a Schrade Trapper I bought nearly 40 years ago, I carried it till the blade was sharpened into oblivion.:D

Congratulations on 4K and thanks for the contest.

First traditional knife I owned was my first knife- a fish head shaped handled Puuko from my grandmothers home town in Norway. The first slipjoint I bought was this Boker, who I passed on to another forum member earlier this year:
