I hope you guys don't get mad at me for listing these.
These are some of the blocks I had stashed for myself and for a coming knife show. I had told several of you that there would be no more of this for sale.

.......but my boss blackmailed me, or you could say he got me to sell these pieces under duress. He said " If you'd sell that good redwood you have stashed, I'll take you to see some of the old timer burl hunters to get some more."

I've pinned him down to go tomorrow morning. We will be going off the beaten path up into the mountains in the redwood forests. Sure hope we find some good stuff.

This wood has to be one of my all time favorites. Super hard stuff that polishes up beautifully. This came from an unusual burl slab that was cut back in the 40s. We got lucky when a lady called wanting to sell us this slab that she had inherited. This is the hardest and heaviest redwood I have ever seen. One of the forum members calculated the density at .85.

It will require some extra work though. There will be open eyes, checks and voids that you may need to fill with CA glue or epoxy. I think the dramatic results are more than worth the extra work involved.

The photos of the blocks show both faces wiped with a damp cloth so you can get an idea how it will look finished. The photos of the scales were taken dry. When you see ones you want, Just post "I'll take #s ....." and I will mark them sold for you. That way nobody else can buy the ones you want out from under you.

US shipping is $2.50 each or $10 for as many will fit into a flat rate box.

This is the next, next, next, next to the last of it right? :)

You missed one next. In the beginning I had about 1/3 of the piece stashed for my own projects. Then Phillip Dobson got a big block that I wished I still had. After that several of the regulars just sent money saying give as much as I can get for this amount. Sight unseen. Finally I gave in to the fact I would be able to keep a very small amount for myself. I have trouble saying no, plus it's fun seeing other people who get as excited about this as I do.
I still have a little that is going to be cut into scales and a bunch of smaller chunks. Most of these were pieces I was going to keep for myself until my boss decided to tempt me with the chance for more.

just one more manzanita chunk in there??

I'm going to quit stashing pieces for myself (or not) because I keep giving them up to you guys.

This piece should yield a block about 6"x2"x1&1/8"
overall size 7&1/2 x 2&5/8 from furthest points.
$45, edgemaster get's first dibs. SOLD to Edgemaster

If anyone is not familiar with manzanita; it is a shrub that will sometimes form burls when growing in volcanic soil. The wood is a couple levels below ironwood in hardness. Colors range from pink to a dark red. Polishes up beautifully and shows off killer chatoyancy especially with an oil finish. Will usually have some voids and hairline checks that require a little CA glue. Difficult to find pieces with large enough solid areas for knife handles. It is a PITA to cut the whole burls because they will have rocks in the fissures. I only cut this on rare ocassions. We use it here mostly for carving into freeform bowls.

You can be sure that block is going to good use. It does take a lot of CA, but it's worth it.

Hi Mark, I'll take 761 if you can wait a couple of days until I get enough money in my paypal account (it's empty again).
