4140 steel for hatchets?

Is this a good steel for a small hatchet? I've found a couple of blanks for something resembling a knatchet type tool but it's in 4140. Just wondering about it.
 
Ive used it several times. Its good steel, tough stuff. Not my personal favorite but its a pretty good steel anyway.
 
How's edge holding? The stuff I'm looking at is 18" overall, the blade is 8" long by 3 1/4" wide and 1/4" thick.
