416 heat treating?

I have some similar data, though I don't know where it's from. Harden from 1700-1800 F, oil quench. Temper 900 F [42 HRc] ,1000 F [26HRc] .

I use 416 and 410 un-heat treated. I have talked with a knife maker that heat treats for the reason of getting a better finish.

Years ago, the 416 you could buy from the major knifemakers' supply houses was already heat treated. Purportedly, heat treating it made it more corrosion resistant and easier to work (because it made it less gummy.)
My whole supply is still heat treated, but I heard Steve Johnson say he doesn't heat treat his anymore, and I think that's good enough for me - when my current supply is gone, I'll try working some un-heat treated.
