Does anyone know where I can get a 12 X 12 X.090 sheet of 416???? MSC and McMaster haven't got it listed.

Don't claim this is definitive yes George, but all websites seem to agree this Kershaw Vapor II here has 410 stainless handles for the framelock, and a magnet definitely sticks to them.

416 is the free machining grade of 410, basically it has higher sulphur content . Both are hardenable and both are magnetic. Since sheet form is usually not machined you probably won't find 416 sheet.

i am sure that it is safe to say that if it is a steel it will have magnetic properities.

Thanks for the post George. I was about to ask the same thing. I want some matching spacers for a 416 guard. I suppose I'll have to skip trying to find it.

I wonder what to use?

Steve, what about the 410? Actually, I've used 304 quite a but and it's not too bad a match. (But it's not magnetic.)

The ID code used in this class of stainless steels tell whether or not it is magnetic. Those starting with 3 (304, 316) are austentitic/non-magnetic. Those starting with 4 (416, 440) are martensitic/magnetic.
