420 HC vs. AUS 4

It really depends on the knife geometry, heat treat, grind, etc. A great maker can make a knife out sub-standard steel that outperforms production knives of better steels. Besides, 420HC and AUS-4 in production knives are for the more afordable, "beater" type of knife. Example: I carry at work a CRKT M-16 04. Why? 'cuz if I loose or break it, I won't have a heart attack. In the outside world, I carry a BM Skirmish, a knife I can depend on 100% (better made and materials).

...we have gone off the DEEP END when we start CARRYING wonder steel.

And USING junk steel. We are a goofy bunch.

"Here, lookee my new ZDP30-VG10AUS SanMai liquid powder crucible cryo stainless carbon Shivmaster! Yep, just got it. WHAT? Cut a cruddy, oily piece of MACARONI? Here, let me go to my truck an get my China knife."

:D :D :D

:D LMMFAO!:D Of course! Why else would I carry a Leatherman also? Get my shiny expensive knife dirty? No freaking way! I think the hardest thing I've cut with my expensive knives are envelopes to open letters.
