420 stainless..... is it that bad?

Kieth your mixing apples and oranges by discussing carbon steels and stainless steels. .6 in carbon steel will allow you to obtain full hardness where as .6 may not be enough carbon to obtain full hardness in a stainless due to the chromium content of the steel.

If you do some checking you will most likely find that the real reason some outfits use 420 steel in thier knives is less wear and tear on thier grinders. This being the case it cost them less to produce thier knives. Anyone who has ground knives knows the wear and tear on belts and equipment due to hard vs soft material.
