...Hard to make excuses for me turnin' into an ol' fart...:( ...LOL...:p
well darryls dont feel bad at least you have a valid excuse lol
back on topic i dug out mine i just have one 426 it is 1990 and has a clip point but it is partially serrated so there must be variations to these as well
also i dug out some others i have 2 429's with a slew of blades and one 428 i am assuming that the 428 had 2 blades come with it , does anyone know which blades they are supposed to be , right now it has a clip point in it
the 429's both 1990 have one each of the clip point and drop point in them , the rest of the blades i have in a jumble i know i have some saws and serrated drop points and gutting blades

i'm still waiting to hear if my guess on the number (6) of 426's out there was right...

buckman, you can download the Mar 05 BCCI Newsletter from the BCCI site if you don't have the hard copy...(article on the Bucklites)... :)

thanks trax it was sitting not 2 feet from me lol
if i read it correctly pre 1990 there were two versions , one clip point and one drop point so my partially serrated must be a variation and after 1991 only one blade style but with various colors
i would like to know what year yours (trax) are as well as darryls

so is there 6 different 426's available ?
a clip point and a drop point of each of the black maroon and green handles ?
Here's what I have on the 426...
First version of the 426 was introduced in 1984 with a two piece maroon handle, drop point blade and brass pins.
In 1985 olive drab handles were offered as well.
In 1986, a clip point blade replaced the drop point blade and handles were available with either brass or steel pins.
In 1987, maroon handles were replaced with black handles and the brass pins were phased out.
In 1987, the two-piece 426 was available as a special project in off white with simulated scrimshaw scenes.
The “Workman” version, 426GY, was available in gray from 1986 to 1988 and sold as Taskmate knives. (Buck Workman etched on the blade)
In 1988 the handles were changed to a one piece design.
1988 to 1990 the knives were available in black, gray or olive drab (workman series)
1988 through 1990, the black handled versions were offered with a serrated edge.
1991 through 1994 the colors offered were black, orange, olive drab and green camo.
1991 through 1993 the workman series was available with a gray handle. 1994 throgh 1995 in black and then discontinued.
1992 and 1993 desert brown camo handles were available.
In 1995 the available colors were black, green camo and olive drab.
Although the 426 was discontinued in 1995, they were re-introduced in 2000 on a limited edition basis.

Also, 425M steel was changed to 420HC in 1995.

There were changes in the grip surface as well...and the placement of the logo...(just going from memory)...

thanks mike good info
if i count correctly there is 11 possible versions and thats ignoring the different pins and the one or two piece design , so if a person included them there would be more than 20 probably

Here's an example of the changes to the surface finish...

Top is a black one-piece 426 clip point grip...

Bottom is a maroon 426 two-piece drop point grip...

You can see that the name is positioned differently; the black has a pebble-grain surface, while the maroon is a linen-like effect...the black also has a raised edge; the maroon has no raise...(the black is also grooved/lined)...

...yep...except for the color, both of mine are the same as the bottom example...Thanks Trax...

I'm kind of surprised Mike Kerins hasn't reached through the monitor to strangle me...the maroon 426 drop point was perfect... :D

...I believe they are both pre-1991...The drop point I believe is 1985 and the clip may be from 86 to 87 when they changed to the 2 pc handle...

...I am too Trax...In all honesty ...until 2 of these things showed up in the mail I had plans to move out one of my clip point 110's and change it into another drop point...I think I'm gonna forget that...where'd ya stick that drop point blade anyway??...

It's in a 112/110 dual blade...I think the pic is still in the bucket...my mistake; it went in a slabside 110 with black linen Micarta scales...right here in my desk... :D
