You will like it.....READ the instructions.....this is the only Buck knife I have
sent in for repairs.....I kept the release held down while trying to remove the blade....the pin rotated from the pressure and the blade would not release.
get the skinning blade that resembles a 103.Makes cleaning a lot easier.
I had missplaced mine for a couple of years and bought 3 more from garage sales and ebay.....found my old one three weeks ago.:)

Scott - It took me a couple days to figure out how Buck did it...Can you post what angle the blade has to be at to extract the blade???

I'm sort of interested in modifying a 110 to the Selector configuration...It'll take a new stepped pivot pin (with milled flats), and I'll have to do some grinding with a thin disk for the extraction channel...

And there's not much interest (to me) in converting a brass/wood 110...NS and Asian Water Buffalo sounds like a winner...with several blades...

I'll have to do a Search on eBay...

Is there a reason why the nail nick is on the wrong side???

trax
they come off at 90 degrees or with the blade halfway open , fully depress the lock and they pull straight out the end

The single blade Selector, also known as the V52 Selector debuted in 1991(+). It came in: brown, green camo, olive drab green, orange, and black.

Those are all plastic??? :( Did Buck ever make a metal one???

What is the difference between the 428 and 429???

Buck made Stag selectors and probablly others than plastic.

428 is a two blade selector one of the blades is not removable and
is a clip point non locking.

429 is a single locking multi choice ,I believe there are 6 different blades.

Some of those blades have been showing up on ebay.. A two pack I think..

Earl,
Are you referring to the stag selector that knot2smart sold on ebay recently? I believe that was made special in the custom shop. I thought for a while about having Leroy make up one for me but decided against it. It shouldn't be difficult to modify a regular 110 to accept the selector blades.

Yes Trax, Buck did make a nickle silver and stag, 1 of a kind, Joe sold it on the feebay, a month or so ago.
Here's a pic of a different one(naturally I found it when I put the new 1 away)

Should read 1 of 5, Thanks EEE!

No there are at least 4 more besides the one Joe had.

The whole knife has to be disassembled to make into a selector,as the locking bar has to be modified also.

All of this commotion about the selector,
I think it may have to be my next purchase!
I'll need to find a skinner blade and a drop point though :D
Keep the neat pics coming!

This is one of several combinations that were offered. They show up on ebay quite frequently.

Not a problem.

In what way, Evil Eye???

I am not a knife maker or dissasembler....the locking bar need to be reprofiled,
as the blade reaches 90 deg. from the handle ,the locking bar is pressed down to release the blade....a regular 110's bar is already all the way down at 90 deg.I will try and get some pics when I get home as I only have about 1/4 of my collection in photobucket.

True. But the Selector blades have the rear of the blade pivot arc ground flat, not left round like the 110...I'm guessing this relieves the pressure on the blade...

Here's a breakdown of a 110 -

You can see the difference between this 110 and Scott's Selector blade...

Trax, good luck with your project. I hope you will post you usual great step-by-step posts with commentary about your trials and tribulations. Preston
