i like the idea of a 440c small axe to be used for hunting applications and have been eyeing them up. how does 440c hold up as a utility chopper at camp? does it chip? is the only downside that ppl find 400c hard to sharpen in the bush?
pros and cons are welcome.
thank you.

I wouldnt think bones would chip 440C in a hunting situation, I've used a pretty thin hatchet that would chop up timber pretty good, no chipping....it stands up to the elements like a champ, great all around steel. Sharpens up pretty easy, with a sharpening stone. I havent seen any with a edge geometry that I liked or with a good concave shape, but for processing game, I'd say

440C is not really a good impact steel. For a small knife, it's good, for an axe? I'd pass.

If you don't want a conventional axe, I'd go with an Estwing instead. The tool steel they're made of isn't stainless, but it doesn't rust quickly, either.
