440c steel

440C was one of the first super-stainless steels and many custom makers (including ABS) prefer to use it for their blades. Michael Black (Knives Illustrated) says that he has found some 440C blades that outperformed the newer purportedly better steels. It also depends on the blade profile and heat treat so you can't judge performance simply by the steel used.
 
440C is pretty good stuff. You can get some really good working knives for good prices in 440C. As mentioned above, HEAT TREAT. I'd ante up for a Gold membership, so you can do searches here. You can find out much more that way.

There is not a darn thing wrong with 440C steel in a well made blade. It takes a great 'meat' edge.
 
for hard use.5160 .1095. o1.less likely to chip' if hit a wood knot or a rock easier to touch up. just wipe or wash and dry after use'
