Hey everyone

My birthday is coming up next month and I was going to treat myself but I can't seem to figure out which way to go, I was looking for something slim, something I'd have with me on dressier occasions, not so much utility but definitely going to be a user and something that in the end if I had to I could depend on. I had always been drawn to the 470 but after getting the mini grip & subsequently giving it to me daughter, I know it will be too small for me so when the 477 when it came out seemed like a natural choice. I really like the blade design of the 477 but not so much a fan of the secondary lock so the 943 caught my eye and then if I was going to spend $190 why not $240 for a 940-1

Thoughts? Opinions? Comparison pics? other options?

Go for the 940-1. It's got Carbon Fiber scales and an S90V blade. It's just a really cool knife that only a few years ago was a dream only.

Well after reading nothing but good things about this special knife i have to get the 940-1 ASAP.I'm interested in used one , if i can't find one i get a new one.

Can anyone tell me what I am gaining or losing with the blade shapes?

With the 940 you're gaining a stouter tip. With the 943 the tip is not as stout but it is great for things that involve detail work. Some say you lose belly with the 943 but you don't.

I have a 940 and absolutely love it. At Blade Show I got to handle the 940-1, and it's a gem. Even lighter than 940, back spacers with flow through handle, and s90v steel. I'd definitely go with that.

I prefer the 940 (have 2, one pe, one ce) to the 943. The tip is more substantial and I could perceive the (minor) weight difference between blades in opening/closing action. Plus, that reverse tanto just looks sick.

I went with the 943 but I've got some more computer sidework coming up and I may just have to get the 940-1 too

I'm glad to hear that about the belly, I was thinking it was going to be a good all around knife given it has more or less a straightback/drop point blade design

I totally agree.

I don't have knowledge about the others you mentioned but I have the 940 and thought so highly of it that when the 940-1 came out with the s90v and cf scales, I knew it would be a worthy upgrade. I haven't been disappointed. It's sleek, light weight and beautiful.

Get the 940. I would get the regular green aluminum handle, but thats just me. I am not a huge carbon fiber fan and I like how the aluminum wears.

Is it the same as the 943 handle? I've only carried it a few times and I've got a little scuff on it already

Any Benchmade will hold up if you need to depend on it. You said you wanted something a bit dressier, go with the 940-1. The 940 and 943 are both great knives, but I have big hands and I personally like the 477 best of them all. The HQ had a blue scaled one right now that looks beautiful. Big, dressy, and will kickazz if you need it too. 477

I have a 940 and a 940-1 I bought both within the last 2 weeks. There unbelievably nice. It was hard to throw that much cash down but I don't have any regrets at all. And that's rare not to have a little buyers remorse.
