“Foniks” by Glenn Are Hovin (SOLD)
“Hayabusa Snakes” by Glenn Waters
“Nighthawk” by Alistair Bastian
The above three knives are probably the most expensive knives I own, but I suspect, the pair of Master Kiku Matsuda “Subaru Tactical Flipper” GEN I & GEN II are the top investment pieces. Both these knives are beautifully engineered, the blades are heavy, and flip open and lock like the doors on a classic British limousine.
The GEN I ceased production almost as soon as it started. The GEN II was meant to be a limited run of 200 but, as far as I can ascertain, only ten were released. The GEN I was from Master Kiku’s personal collection and the GEN II from a pre-release batch of ten made at the end of 2021, I tried to order another in January 2022 but no response from Kiku Knives.
Master Kiku is known for his fixed-blades, I don’t know for sure, but my best guess is that production costs were too high to make flippers a viable business model.
I think Master Kiku is better known in the US than he is in Australia, so if anyone knows more about the fate of his “Subaru”, I would love to hear about it.
I have decided to run “48-hour “offers. My knives are already keenly priced but I will have to pay commission if I end up putting them up on consignment, I would rather do it this way.
I will let the pair of “Subaru Tactical Flippers GENI & GENII” go for Price redacted SOLD
Given the super-short run on both of Master Kiku's venture into folders at age 72,I really think the Subarus, particularly as a pair, will be a very good medium term investment.
