4D Mag-lite LED conversion

How are the Terralux LED upgrades with Lithium or NiMH batteries? I upgraded some AA and AAA flashlights with Lithium batteries and they are a bit brighter and so far I've seen no ill effect even though they say to only use alkaline batteries with them.
