I made the micarta and pins on this knife, and the blade is from my buddy cigardoghd. These were the first mosaic pins I made and the first sheath I have made. First two pictures are before I buffed it. Critiques are welcome!

Looks very good. Nice little wharny and nice dangle sheath.

What did you use as the resin for your 'mycarta?' I found I had to go to a supply company for the carbon fiber and such industry to get a reliable polyester resin that penetrated best and most simulated real micarta...
http://compositeenvisions.com btw.
Vacuum seems to help a lot too... It took a lot of trial and error before I started using it on anything. And now I just buy it premade. Was too much cost and effort when balanced with the cost of premade.

Yours looks like it came out near as factory made as I've seen. And your mosaic pins are excellent. Very nicely done.

My only real critique would be to flip the D for the dangler. That way your sewn edge has more area to stitch and the fold over the curved portion of the D is all leather. Nice tooling and nice wetform it looks like.

Thanks Eric! I used Bondo fiberglass resin from Lowes and a 7 dollar harbor freight drop canvas that I dyed green. I think that I have gotten lucky with this process, as this is actually the fifth slab of micarta that I have made. I just press it, I dont use a vacuum or anything like that. I have found that the best way to be successful with your "mycarta" (as with anything else) is proper setup and prep. I work it so that I am only working with the resin for about 10 minutes before clamping. Having a buddy help with the process is almost crucial, as I have had my buddy assist me with each batch, mixing and pouring the resin while I am dipping and laying the material. I will eventually have to bite the bullet and get some epoxy resin for it, but I think the Bondo is working out alright for me for now.

I'll definitely keep the D ring in mind for the next dangler sheath I make. Thanks again!
