Dear Members,

Part 4 of the Emerson Question and Answer interviews are now up. These were filmed over a month ago and it is quite sad and ironic that this one today has the story of Sifu Richard Bustillo and the start of Emerson Knives. I was at his bedside yesterday afternoon to say my final goodbye to such a great man and such a great friend.

I hope you enjoy it.

You've got balls, Mr. Emerson, I'll grant you that.

Despite all the flak you've had here.

Definitely a guy I'd like to meet in real life.

For that, I'm almost about to hit the buy button to see what I'd get quality wise. Heck, if you were down the road, I'd come and visit.

Someone talk me out of it?

Here at BF we don't talk people out of buying knives, you should know that. It's our weak spot. I say buy one, if they're good enough for the SEALs and NASA, why turn your nose up at them?

I live in Oz. The cost is a little prohibitive, shipping from EKI is a significant proportion of the knife itself. Um... yeah.. I checked... [embarrased grin]

I know about the warranty but the distance makes using it more difficult, unfortunately.

Dear Members,

Spykez, Evilgreg and all. I'd share a beer or a whiskey with you anytime - anyplace. Never be afraid to stand by your convictions. The world needs more of that.

You are always welcome at my house (the shop that is, my wife would kill me) and hope that any of you stop by if you are ever in So Cal.

Thanks for the lively banter. It's all good.

Best,

Ernest

This kind of thing has you winning me over, at least about Emerson the man. Kudos for taking the high road.

I found a second hand 7BW. My wife is going to kill me! :p

If it's all beat up, can I send it back to EKI for a service, please? Cheers, thanks.

I visited the Emerson shop in August 2014 to drop off my CQC7 and Commander for lock bar replacement and blade play on my way to see USS Iowa. Those two (first two in the picture below) are from early 2006. I asked to visit the factory floor but was denied. I did buy a Zealot while there. My last and final Emerson was Rangemaster Sheepdog Bowie in March 2015.

I think you should know, Ernest, I got myself a 7BW almost brand new and am very pleased with it, so much so that I'm getting another, this time a CQC-8.

You should know that the 7BW was purchased after having the Kershaw Emerson CQC-8K tanto folder for a while. I found the 7BW and the 8K very similar, except, perhaps the 8K being a little newer having just perhaps a tad better ergos, for me anyway.

I also think you should know Kershaw are finishing the 8K, at least the one I got, a little better than the 7BW I got, in so far as the liners and scales were polished flush well. But they both worked fine, and open and close well with no play and lock issues. The Kershaw G10 also is kinder on my pockets. My only concern now is how long the locks will last on these knives, but I guess I know I can send them back to be serviced.

Of course, I can never be sure this post is free from bias. I'm just happy with my purchase and could be retrospectively justifying it, caveat emptor but lol, the facts are I liked the kemerson 6K and subsequently the 8K, and now a real 7BW and hopefully the 8 when it gets here. So unless I'm a sucker for punishment, I think I am coming across as a convert.

I decided to reply to this post as I think with the new forum software you might read this, and to know how I got on and that now, I "get it". And I know you said it's all good, but I should nevertheless apologise for taking the proverbial piss! I'd love to call my new Emerson a Lemerson, but I honestly find it difficult to justify that!

I also wish to say that your joint venture with KAI did lead me here and I'm interested to know when the Kemersons 10K and 11K are due. Keep that going. I'd like to see more linerlocks in that range actually. Steel against steel isn't bad. The 8K is very good, IMO.

And also to let you know that I'm happy with the 7BW I got (serial no. in the 10,000's) and to keep the quality there - I'm not too pushed about flushed scales and rough G10 as long as the damn knives work and lock up good.

If the CQC-8 I get is of similar quality, I'll be looking at the other clip points you have.

Cheers,
Spykez from down under!
