4th largest cave

Ive never been in a cave before, but i think ie be totally paranoid about my light going out. I think i'd be carrying a extra pack filled with flashlights, glowsticks, headlamps, candles and extra batteries :D

. . . I like the way PTP thinks . . .
My wife started looking at this thread & did fine until the one shot of the guy in the white jump suit with the cave bearing down on his back & that was all she could take . . . :D Great shots of some very interesting things about the world we live in.
Looks like cave exploring will not be on our list of vacation sites.
Be safe.

wow...well, i wasn't claustrophobic before clicking on this thread but i guess i am now! i didn't see any oxygen tanks so i guess ventilation is really good even that deep.

Ventilation is excellent in there. The cave system seems to have three major levels. The one you can see is in the pics the middle level, and there is an estimated 1/4 mile of rock on top. All levels are connected, the top level has several exits to the mountain top. However, they don't do tours to the top level, since it must be technically and physically extremely challenging. One of the guides stated, that there is a part in the top level that no one does a second time voluntarily.

i have no fear of heights and love to test myself, but i just don't feel comfortable going that far underground..:o

I had the same feelings in the beginning before we entered the cave system. But I turned out to be no problem.Though, at the very narrow parts, I asked my self " do I really wanna do that?". However, the more of these passages you do, the more fun it becomes.

oh, some more info on the cave:
constant temperature (all year long): 43°F
relative air humidity: 100%.

Wow that's awesome. I've been in a few caves but I think that one is a little extreme for me :D

Great shots and stories.
Really love going through key-hole passages.
Thanks for sharing.
I really miss caves.

Where I live there are a ton of caves, its always fun to go out with some friends (a few who stay back and know where youre going) and drop into a sinkhole just to see whats in there.

I dont like to be underground it can be panic inducing for me. but i would sure try this one and see how far i would go. It has to be such a rush to crawl in a space that tight. Just think of all the movies where you get attacked and eaten by monsters lol.. that looks awsome i want to do that...

Yea, I'm not going in there. Aside from being too fat, I'm just not trusting the earth enough to not come down on me. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!

Very cool pictures, but there is no way I would choose to go in like that myself. Too freaky for me.

On a related note, a coworker of mine used to help his mother out with her research when he was a kid. She studied insects in caves. One time the whole family was together, but they only had one flashlight (dumb mistake which they never made again). Long story short, they wait in the dark for an hour and a half lying on their stomachs while his dad gropes his way out, drives to the nearest gas stop, buys a flashlight, and makes it back to find them.

I would've been permanently traumatized, but he seems pretty well adjusted... for a field biologist.
