4th of July coming...

Not this year, but from roughly 1995 until 2018 this is what I did on July 4th. These are from 2013. 4th of July celebration in Deer Lodge, Tennessee. 250 half chickens and 50 quarters. Proceeds go to the Abner Ross Community Center in Deer Lodge.

Brisket to hi for me David. So its burgers and hot dogs for us.
Nice looking Buck.

Think I'm going to do this again. An hour on the Kamado with some cherry wood smoke rolling, Sweet Baby Ray's, about half wrapped in bacon. Yeah... beer in one hand, drumstick in the other!

Photos soon... experiencing technical difficulties...

I'll do some BBQ chicken on the grill for the Fourth of July - just the wife, our resident daughter, and myself this year. This year our big family time in July will come in the northwestern NC mountains later in the month - a family wedding get together for a nephew and his fiancee. My older kids and spouses will join us - my wife has rented a big mountain house all of my family can stay in for a week's vacation. We'll be doing plenty of grilling, but I'll do the breakfast meals and let the younger generation (all in their 30's & 40's) do the evening grilling and dinner preparations (I'm furnishing the house and groceries!) OH

That's good of you OH to chip in on this family shin-dig. Hope you all have a great time. Bring some Buck knives to talk about. DM

How do you like your smoker? My wife ordered me one for Father’s Day but it hasn’t come in yet. Was just researching brisket recipes in the hopes that I get it in time to season it and break it in on the 4th!

Changed my mind. Buddy that works at Sams called and told me he had a nice prime packer at 3 bucks a pound held back for me! View attachment 1367291So I went all in and picked up that 18lb brisket, 4-9 lb Butts and 3 slabs of baby backs for next weekend. I’ll smoke off the clods for the freezer Thursday night into Friday. I’ll make a gallon of homemade sauce Friday after a nap then 3 racks of ribs on Saturday for the driveway party on the 4th. So 16-18 hours for the butts and briskets, 3 hours for sauce and 5 hours for the ribs. That a good weekend of work.Happy Birthday America!
