looking at it closer now i think so too. there's no finish wear surrounding the chip. i know with my bk-2 & bk-9, it didn't take much batoning through wood for the finish to show it. wood hard enough to chip a blade, even a defective one, i'd say would at least scratch the becker finish imho.
