4v or Cruwear for thin edge strength

4V or Cruwear

It's got a very small and slightly blended bevel now near the edge.

I know my caliper measurements don't mean anything, but it's nice to see a correlation.

I'm still undecided on my next steel choice. Since 4V and Cruwear seem to both have good edge strength, I'll find a pattern of knife I like in either one and be happy.

Some of the knife makers im looking at only do things through facebook or instagram.

Does the heat treat of a knife affect only the hardness? Are there other things involved in a heat treat that affect the performance of a steel other than hardness? Im thinking I can ask a knife maker who's patterns I like to send a steel for heat treat according to whatever specs / harness I want.

"if it’s a polished edge with no grinding scratches, you just s a straight line reflection from the minimum to the maximum angle."

Could call that a "Dash"

Josey,

You should blow the dust off that unit and play around with it some more.

There are a lot of different reflections one can observe due to not just geometry but surface roughness and scratch orientation that are also not covered in the instruction manual.

I'll leave you to it.
