Warning for insults
It’s interesting giving 2 specific models that one thinks themselves superior because they may or may not know more info on a fixed blade and that gives them the right to be an online bully who’s sits behind a keyboard and then demands that questions be asked a specific way. Insulting to attacking if I’m thebwife or the husband like that matters and then being completely condisending. My advice is if you don’t like the questions piss off. We where all new to blade forum at one time or another. You opinion of your self is so high it makes this forum crowded with the size of your head.

Spandexx, i have read this thread as it has progressed...i dont quite understand the original question.

No one here is being condescending, but is asking for clarification. Its hard to help when we dont know what the question is. Also, only you have seen pictures/knife info, so it would be helpful if you could elaborate or post a picture. So far you havent done any of that.

Therefore, people are wondering if you are trolling, myself included. There are many knowledgeable people here, and dont like their valuable time wasted.

Please clarify your question so the members can help.
 
I'm home sick so I'll try to help out like Sharp and Fiery asked.

She likes the look, size, design of the Hinderer Ranch Bowie and Dark Timber 1911. They are pricey and seemingly out of stock most places. She is looking for alternative and hopefully cheaper choices that fit that same look, size, and design criteria.

She is interested in the Freeman Model 451 5" fixed blade (the topic of this thread). Anyone have thoughts on Freeman knives in general or this particular knife?

She apparently isn't interested in Bark River, Busse, or Esee offerings.

1. The Swamp Rat Knives Ratmandu CG doesn't interest you? Yes, they are a subsidiary of Busse but it's a great knife and steel for the $.
2. Carothers knives (aka Nathan the Machinist) interest you? Do a search on the forum here (upper right). He does a lot of work in 3V.
3. Bradford Guardian 4 or 5 not interest you?
4. Buck custom shop has a S30V bowie available. Have you looked at the site?
5. Perphaps one of the makers on this forum can make a knife to exact specifications at a price you like. You would need to look through the fixed blade makers, find some you like, and PM them if they could/would make a Hinderer Ranch type Bowie/Dark Timber to your specs.
6. The Lionsteel M5 and T5 are nice knives also.

I might be able to help with translation for other bf members, since SpandexxHotWife is at least consistent with her misspellings

where = were (this one is likely why so many people who respond are already a bit po'd)
condisending = condescending
your = you're

after you have this translation table, reading all the posts are much easier
PS - this is not meant to insult or make fun of anyone's spelling issues, the fight is real for many people (ie dyslexia etc)

Are you deaf? Because you type like a deaf person. I am not asking as an insult because I am myself Deaf and I see a lot of Deaf people talk like that. I have also seen similar attitudes from Deaf people like that too when they get all defensive before they start thinking.

I had the Freeman 451 that the OP asked about. It was an awesome knife, top notch quality. It fit my hand weird (I wear size small gloves) so that might be a consideration. It is a pretty thick blade, and the G10 is by far the most aggressive I've ever seen. I would recommend the diamond pattern they do over the cratered. I believe you can contact them directly and get one in whatever configuration you like.

If you like the Freeman 451, get one. They are great knives, and you really get a lot for the money. I don't imagine anyone could break one, and since you mentioned the choil, I found it to be great in a grip employing the choil. I highly recommend it, and would still have mine if not for the aforementioned ergonomic issue I had. I'm about to talk myself into another now.

PS - I have a Dark Timber 1911 and it IS an awesome knife. It replaced my 451.

Winter is still having too heavily a presence but I those two are the knives that I can't wait to go get 'em tested. I'm still surprised OP refuses to consider them (we're all confused on the possible reasons why it's instantly rejected). Aren't they such pretty knives?

Insulting? Attacking? No, we just want to know who you really are. It does, however, matter if you're here pretending to be a woman when you're not. That's what a troll would do. And then you go off calling us "dumb ass", insulting us, and telling us to "piss off". Yeah, that's really helping your case. Nah, that's not it. He/she appears to be looking at spending ~$300 (yet won't confirm that...), so Busse/kin certainly aren't out of the running for that reason. And several (myself included) have also recommended CPK, yet he/she seems to have ignored that completely. Yet further evidence of a troll thread here. :mad:
 
The spyderco Perrin Street bowie is 5” long and has a finger choil in place of a guard. It’s only $107, but check it out. Very easy to carry and vg-10 steel is easy to sharpen yet holds an edge very well.
