Hi can you guys help me out by listing any 5/16 inch knives out there or 1/4 inch if it is long enough.

Im looking for a heavy chopper and the only one i could find is the trailmaster and the bussekin knives which arent always available or to expensive.

Also front heavy, flat on top and full flat grind would be nice.

Thanks

what's your price range?

Fallkniven Tor?
I think KaBar has a couple big boys in the 1/4" range.
Take a look at Himalayan Imports - they have a BUNCH of thick handmade blades for decent prices. (and not all of them are Khukris)
some of the makers on BF make 1/4" choppers as well.
and then there's the Kraken. .550 at the spine.

Hoo boy. Yeah, price range is everything here. Though you can still pick up a Ka-Bar 1217 USMC for around $57 if you bargain-hunt. Don't believe that's flat-ground, but it's one heck of a good knife.

Axe it is then.:D

No what Im looking for is something like my sk5 trailmaster ($150 shipped) but flat on top

I'm not sure what you mean by "flat on top." My guess is single hilt versus double hilt, which would discount the Ka-Bar (which I put the calipers to a few minutes ago, and it comes out as .170".) Look at the Fallkniven suggested earlier; that's a great knife.

Sorry i dont want it to have a clip point or bowie style. When i baton on the trailmaster the sharpened top snaps the wood Im batoning with in two.

And Thanks, glad to post here.:D

In your Price Range Himalayan Imports is your best choice.

well a scrapyard dogfather fits the bill well but they arent sold anymore:(.

I figured there would be more like these made from other companies.

Yeah, $200 leaves out almost all of the better things out there. Actually, he really probably would be better off with an axe.

That's what I am thinking too. :)

It's a lot cheaper too.

Yup. Splurge and buy the (really outstandingly nice) little Gransfors Brux hunter's axe and you'll still have money left over.

I just got a RTAK II by Ontario. Pretty thick blade (just short of 1/4 I believe) and only $80 when I got it.

Ok thanks guys.

But out of curiosity what are those more expensive choppers you would recommend?
