5"-7" fixed recommendations

Why are strider knives so expensive? They just seem to be a shapened and shaped piece of decent S30V steel with a parachord handle. Seems blocky and uncomfortable. I don't doubt they are good knives, but they look like they should be between $100-$200

yeah, but you can't get that level of mall ninja awesome with just any knife! :jerkit:

OP, depending on whether or not you need your new knife in a hurry, you might wanna check out the RAT cutlery RC-6. looks like they're set to drop next month sometime. busse is also great, and it sounds like jerry's getting ready to release a couple of more bushcraft-friendly blades in the near future. check out dan koster's forum here, too, for pics and reviews of his bushcraft knives. they're really great, but there might be a bit of a wait. if you need something now, go poke around the busse exchange.

Because, some of us are willing to spend the bucks on them.

They may well be overpriced, however I like many of the Strider designs. The way they are built it's like they want to be used.
I have several Randall Made knives and I don't use them. I really enjoy using my Striders.

Dear :jerkit:

Striders are well made and Strider makes a number of interesting designs.

Lots of good suggestions. You might also consider Beckers - many models to choose from and Kabar will be producing them again soon. Here's my Crewman with 5 inch blade - it's a tank:

I'm really loving the k9 dingo. I'm also really liking the last chance. Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions: it took nearly all day to chase all these knives down... I might need to get two or three fixed blades about this size. Any idea when kabar is going to start production of the crewman?? Also, how soon till the dingo's are shipped?
Thank you all again!!!

maybe it's just me but whenever I see the word "tactical" I think of a mall ninja,
and a ploy at younger/inexperienced buyers, no offense meant at anyone.

do a search (google) and see why so many people here like Ranger knives.
Justin is a class act to deal with and his blades will last several lifetimes...

The only thing "too nice" about the Dingo....is the price....

:p

These should be ready to ship in about 4-6 weeks - the blades are in heat-treat right now.

Check the forum for pricing...and it does include a sheath. ;)

Another Strider comment. While Strider does use an oxide coating on many of their knives that coating is very thin and very rugged.
Unlike the paint used on some other knives, the Strider oxide coating does not hide machining marks or other "flaws" in the finish of the metal.

You also get a nice sheath with your Strider. :)

I have quite a few Striders. The metal, under the oxide coating, is quite well finished for a field knife.

at each price point, there is something that will work for you.

in other words, are you looking to spend up to 400.00 on a high end production or custom?

or are you considering knives under 100.00, 100-200, 200-300, 300+?

100-200: bark river seems to make a fine knife within this range, med swamprat, scrapyard, small strider, rat cutlery (not ontario), small-med reeve.

200-300: strider, small busse, med- lge swamprat, reeve.

300+: med busse, lge swamprat, and lots of custom makers.

Take a look at the Fehrman Shadow Scout ( I have the satin version on order), it looks like a great do all knife. Other knives that come to mind are;

Busse: Badger Atac, satin Jack
Swamp Rat: Ratmandu.
Chris reeve: MKIV and other 5.5" one piece.
Fehrman: Last Chance
Bark River: Canadian Camp, Bravo 1, Teddy.
Ranger: RD6
Falkniven: S1 and A1

oh, i would have added fehrman and k9 as well, but i dont have any personal experience with their products.

Right now you can order a Busse ASH-1 direct from Bussecombat.com. It's $299 and a 6.5" blade. Can't tell you how great it is because I just ordered mine a little while ago but there are quite a lot of believers in the INFI.
