Looking at getting a fixed knife in the 5-7 inch range. Thinking about the buck 119. Don't want to spend too much. Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

My Becker BK-2 is a beast of a knife at 5.25" long and .25" thick. Not that great at delicate tasks but can chop down tree. What are you gonna use it for?

I also have a 119 and it is a decent knife in that range. Not as tough but more capable at smaller tasks.

How much is too much? It would help greatly if you specified a budget.

For the $50 price range and a big blade (9 1/2",) try the SOG Fusion Jungle.

If you want a 5-7" knife then yep - Becker BK-2. You also say you want it for hunting though and I'd argue that 5" is more blade than you want for cleaning big game. If that's your primary focus then 2-3" is more like it in which case the BK-11 might more useful to you.

A friend of mine bought one of these when he was first getting into knives and didn't know anything about them. He broke it the first time he tried to chop into a piece of wood. Avoid this junk.

benchmade cskII would fit your criteriahttp://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM158BK
