Who here carries knives with a blade larger than 5 in? i'm just curious to see what large knives people carry.

And when i say carry i mean in public with the sheeple

Carry in my hand or in my pocket? In my pocket, I alternate between carrying a Spyderco Meerkat and a Cold Steel Vaquero Grande (the Cold Steel having a 6" blade, the Meerkat having much less than that).

Camillus Gibbs Madd Maxx 7" blade. Hope to get a DDR custom 7" Maxx back in the collection soon and also his upcoming 9" blade maxx.

I also carry a Cuda Maxx 7.0 (7" Blade), But lately I havent been lately because Its been so hot and I dont want it to rust from my sweat. I will soon be carrying a Rat Daddy CG (10.5" Blade)when my Sheath arrives.

I carry a 5-1/2" Camillus Aftermath every day. Before that became available I carried a 5-1/2" Camillus Maxx Bowie. And before that became available I carried a 5-1/2" REKAT Sifu. Do you detect a pattern? :)

i live up north (for the time being anyway), so noone really makes a fuss if im wearing a large fixed blade - usually 7-10" blade on them. when i go into town ill leave it in the car, but around here there are no raised eyebrows.

were moving in a month, so in a city atmosphere ill downgrade to a small folder, 4" blade tops. something that size is more than enough for 'urban' tasks, you only really need larger knives for bushcraft. i cant see any use for them in a city, and believe me - neither will the cop that stops you for them :)

My CR Sable IV is the largest I'm comfortable carrying. Longer than that is too much for me to move around with out bumping in to stuff.

I've got a Sable that was made
with a twelve and a half inch blade.

It bumps into things just hanging off the edge of my computer desk. :)

Usually a 4 1/4 inch RJ Martin Manta Ray and another smaller blade is it for my EDC. Sometimes I will wear a larger 6" or 7" fixed blade, but very rarely.

I wish i could carry a fixed blade, but the sheeple here think even small knives are scary. And this is south dakota!
When I fist got a job at this trophy shop here in Rapid City, i carefully produced my 3 inch bladed Voyager and even opened it with 2 hands so as not to appear intimidating, and used it to cut a box open. Both my bosses (husband & wife) stumbled back with creeped out looks on thier faces like I was Gary Busey or something and commented on "What A Big Knife I Was Carrying!" The female was a little scared and looked at me like I was weired, but tha male was cool. But he still thought my knife was big! He began referring to my blade as "Stormbringer" and "Excalibur" and "Devil Slayer!"
LOL LOL. His jokes were funny, but his wife's fear of me was a bit annoying. It still amazes me how PC people are.

Also, you wanna hear something retarded??
In most states, like california and i THINK new york, the legal concealed carry limit is 4 inches.
Here, it is a measly 3.5 inches.
I don't mind, as I find a small knife suitable for most tasks anyway. But the reason baffles me. We are a rural farming state, with Rapid City being pretty much the only Urban City, yet bigger and more "Civilized" states with higher crime rates allow bigger knives!
I wonder what my bosses would do if I whipped Out a 6 in. Vaquero and snapped it open with one hand and used it to open an envelope!

not new york as far as i know you can carry pretty much any size knife as long as it doesn't look "dangerous"

haha about the vaquero grande. i have a similar story

I was over my friends house with people and stuff and someone asked if anyone had a knife. So i pull out my CRKT M-16 using the carson flipper as a kind of "wave" and it opens up. The person that asked for it was like "I asked for a knife and you pull out a freakin sword!". lol just a funny story

I carry a 3" Kershaw folder here in Los Angeles... it's an "assisted" openner, which is legal, but I've been bothered about it once by an officer. Maybe it's because I was staring at him and flicking the knife open and closed like a psycho. The blade looks small to me but, as bzzhewt is experiencing, people just seem to flip out over any knife. "Stormbringer" lol.
Yes, people seem worried by my 3" blade. I've ordered a 3.75" Lightfoot Predator Tanto, I'll see if my fellow citizens react better to that. :D
Here's a small excerpt from a site that tries to explain the California knife laws (not quite as unclear as the gun laws, but still very poorly defined):

Los Angeles and a few other SoCal cities have a town ordinance banning the carry of knives over 3". In SOME cases, it's phrased as a ban on big stuff of any sort carried openly, so that excludes fixed-blades and the open-carry of big folders, but you can still conceal (and LEAVE concealed until needed to save a life) a large folding knife.

Here's the link if anyone wants to read more:

I have Cuda Maxx Stilletto in 5.5 that I will carry every now and then. I usually bring it with me when Im climbing, depends what Im wearing as to whether its on person or not.

CA law is pretty clear on knife carrying. You can't carry any type of fixed blade concealed. When in the open you can make it as big as you want (ie. Sword over the shoulder). No carrying automatic knifes ie. switchblades or gravity blades.

There's no length limit on concealed carry folders. So theoretically you can carry a 12" folder concealed.

Got to be careful about the municipal code of the city you are in, however.

For instance, in Berkeley, it is a misdemeaner to carry a blade greater than 3" on your person.

I was going to buy a CS Vaquero Grande 6" but decided that a Spyderco Endura 4" would suit me much better.
