5" blades

practicality question:

I'm interested in adding a large folding knife to my lineup ~ 5" blade. But I'm concerned about the practicality of the larger blades. Do you find yourself wishing you had carried something smaller? Or do you just adapt? Personally, I prefer around 4"-4.5", but only because I've never had one larger. Do you like the larger blades more for the "cool factor"? or is there something else about them?

Thanks, guys.

For the record, I have handled several 5"+ knives and found them VERY large for carry. How do you guys keep your pants from falling down with one in your pocket? :p

The Cuda Maxx 7.0 is very light and thin, Ti Handles and Framelock- so it seems to weigh me down less than my old Buck 110 did, and it disappears in the pocket. That, and I have a belt ;) I think choice of materials is key- if the Cuda Maxx was made with heavy materials like steel or brass, it would be way too heavy.
I also carry a small blade for delicate cutting.

very interesting....I just checked some info and it appears the CUDA Maxx is 7 oz. and the Buck 110 is 8 oz.

I carry a 2.75" blade EDC. For me a 3.75" blade(fixed) was still a little big for EDC.

I rarely, if ever have wished I were carrying a smaller blade than my 7" Maxx. I try to take into account what I will be doing for the day. Sometimes, it just doesn't fit in my pocket! ;)
