--EDIT --- Oops, messed up the emailing:rolleyes:

Dang, missed it.

I'm pretty tempted by that Kobra, but I keep asking myself what on earth I would do with it. I guess that's never stopped me before, but I'll let it go today. Hopefully I won't regret it in a couple days.

Great batch as always.

How do you fix hairline cracks in handles so they don't get worse or can you even clean them up the way they are?

Thanks,

Billy

I sent an e-mail for the 18" AK too. I did not post immediately here though.
I guess, we have to wait for Yangdu's answer.

Thanks,

first and foremost, superglue... goto a hobby shop, where you can buy CA type glues (medium thick), at about $4 for an ounce. that's a LOT.

a drop at a time up and down the crack, let it wick in. fill the crack. it'll wick in. wait a few second. *breath on it* that helps set the CA glue (moisture). wick in some more. walk away for a while. come back, sand with whatever grit you feel appropriate (1000 grit is fine on working horn imho), get the dust into the hole some (says many). wick in more glue. horn is thirsty, you can wick a LOT in. sand the extra glue down again. repeat... eventually, the crack will just be filled, and the surrounding horn absorbs a lot of the CA - structural and almost invisible repairs.

next: looks for ANY hint of cracks. see if glue will wick in. no? next step: treat the horn with any of the various products mentioned in the treating thread, and other magics... mineral oil, watco danish oil, tung oil? hooflex, ballistol, all that. keep horn from drying out, and stay sealed. some people might try polyurethane too.

as horn is porous, i imagine that if one could somehow full impregnate the horn with a sealer/plasticizer, it'll last ... a long time.

the above works fairly well for wood too.

after reading this: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371806 i let three horn handles soak in mineral oil for 3 days, and they have been drying 3+ days now. one of them seems quite moist still, the other two appear dry. the next step is that i'm going to take the most expendible? one and use tung oil on it. from what i can tell, it's going to seal just as well (do the same thing) as watco danish (teak) oil will, i'm just not prepared to run out and buy a can of watco as a special trip when i have tung around. i hope this isn't a booboo :>

sometimes that horn gets REALLLLLY dry. it's a natural product. you have to treat it.

plain steel is simple too - rust - has anyone bothered to spray paint, or "tough coat" their HI blades? any of those industrial baked on/etc or ceramic coatings would rock.

I swear the only thing I would change if I won the lottery would be adding a guilt free sharking every day. Beauties. Love the BAS. And by exclamation mark kami too. Too bad about me. GETEM LADS!!!!!

Arrgh. I missed another Bura hanshee-hybrid.

Who got the 25" Kobra? It was a great price for a short sword.

about $400 and a "email of all" would've gotten someone a good load of steel (and brass +- $20)

that's NOT a lot of money at all, for what would amount maybe 2 hours of "repair" and perhaps some time spread out over a week or two to make them studly and perfect.

where else can someone buy 25 inches of ready to go zombie steel for a price like that? nowhere.

I guess, it's yours, mtnfalcon.
Congratulations, good grab! :)

Having recently missed two of the knives I'm truly Jonesing for, finally snagging a Bura AK is a nice consolation.

I lucked out. It looked like Yangdu wasn't online again today, so I was refreshing only once very 15 minutes. Fate smiled on this snarf shark pup today.

regarding the medallion

the text says:
"Top is Bura and moving clockwise we have Sher, Sanu, Kesar, Kumar and Murali."

shouldn't that be:
bura = crescent moon, sher = full sun, kumar = six pointed star, sanu = cross, kesar = half-sun, murali = trisul/trident

confused!

Email sent on Hanshee.

eswartz,

I was searching the Deals posts from the last 3 months last night and saw your name as a sender and winner of quite a few knives. You must have quite a collection by now, among others here. Have you ever posts pics? Would be  to see.
