Since there was some confusion, I thought we could use a tagalong thread to Adan's.

The premise is similar: 5 fixed blade knives. Ones you own or could buy now. I'm not putting a cost ceiling on this, and if you want to include bespoke customs, that's great. But I know some of you troublemakers are going to try and hold a spot open for a lightsaber. :p

For me,

1) ESEE Izula. Since I can't have the folding version, and the Medellin is like a cheeseburger without the cheese.
2) Busse Combat Badger Attack Ergo. Does anybody actually look at these names?

There isn't much those two couldn't accomplish. So the other three slots can be for fun.

3) Carothers EDC
4) Fiddleback forge, either a Bushfinger or a karda. I'd have to try both, and flip the one I like less.
5) A Tai Goo piece. I'm going to waffle a little here, because I like his style, but I haven't found something by him that really wants me to take it home.

5 fixed blades for the rest of my life?

I'll stick with production knives. Here goes.

1) Becker BK16
2) Becker BK4
3) ESEE Izula 2

For field use, camping, EDC, etc... there is no niche that isn't covered with those three, so the next two spots will be for kitchen knives, because you didn't carve out that the needs would exclude kitchen duty.

I'll go with:
4) My New West Knifeworks Damascus Santoku, and
5) The 3.5" classic shun paring knife

For those unfamiliar with New West Knifeworks...

The Beckers and ESEE cover everything outdoors, and outside of some very specialized tasks, there isn't much that can't be done in the kitchen with a chopping knife like a chef's knife or a Santoku, paired with a paring knife. I think these 5 would have all the bases covered rather nicely.

OK, here goes.
1. Esee Izula, great little fixed blade.
2. Mora Companion, dirt cheap, versatile, surprisingly tough.
3. Camillus Arclite, combo edge, brilliant picnic and camping knife. Goes camping with me every time, and that combo edge can slice tomatoes with ease. Or a steak.
4. Esee 4, my "big" SHTF knife. This is the one I want with me when the zombies attack.
5. Not really sure. Maybe a BK 7? Eyeing one of these off at the moment, even though I regard Becker as a poor man's Esee, based on the experience I have had with one Becker, my BK 11. Feel free to try and change my mind though! Otherwise, I'd stick with my CRKT Falcon, another surprisingly good small fixed blade that is great around the home and garden. Also picnics.

1. Busse Ash-1
2. Busse Ash-2
3. Carothers HDFK
4. Adventure Sworn Explorer
5. Fiddleback Forge Bushfinger

My five FIXED blade knives would be presently...
  1. Bark River Wilderness Explorer (Cruwear)
  2. White River Backpacker Pro
  3. Dozier Pro Guide
  4. Dozier Personal
  5. Kabar Becker BK-15
Runner up.... Lionsteel M4 but I don't own one.

1. 5.11 CFK7
2. ESEE 4HM
3. Mora Companion
4. Lionsteel T5
5. Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works Combat Bowie

I'm getting old enough this might be feasible but if I still had 40 years or so to go, it wouldn't work because I'd end up sharpening them into spikes. :)

But off the top of my head...

1) Yaxell Dragon Fire 8.5" Asian Chef's knife
2) Whustof Gourmet 6" Chef's knife which I would have a sheath made for and would see double duty in the field (axes are for chopping ;) )
3) Yaxell Dragon Fire 4" Pairing knife which I would also have a sheath made for
4) Some kind of machette
5) Probably something from @Horsewright or @DeadboxHero

Probably not the line up most would choose or expect but I could get by with most any knife need with those choices.

I don't rock fixed blades due to local laws but I guess i go with an knife with INFI or tougher because sometimes you just want to split a rock to see what's inside.

Beyond that if it's for life I probably have a d2 Dozier and some other customs in there.

Fixed blades I own:

Arno Bernard Small Hunter with Warthog Tusk
Buck Mini Alpha Hunter with Giraffe Bone
full

Browning Crowell Barker Competition Knife (an absolute beast)
full

Blades I want:

Buck Vanguard
full

Randall Trailblazer
full

I'm not that much into fixed blades so I guess I'll list the 4 I have.

1. Esee 5
2. Mora Companion
3. Bradford 3.5
4. Emler Viper

1. Butter knife
2. Steak knife
3-5. Shun prestige 3 piece set (chef, utility, and pairing).

....’cause I use a hatchet + folder when camping.

All you really need is a smatchet. ;)

And a Jagdkommando, amirite?

I dunno, Rimfire. The Smatchet is pretty hardcore for cutting apples and opening envelopes. You should probably have one nearby in case ninjas attack while you're eating your apple. But for my opinion, you really want a secondary knife, if only so that your Smatchet is always razor-sharp and ready to pierce armor.

Just to cover all possible bases, but excluding choppers because I know too little about them to pick one:

Spyderco Sprig
Cold Steel 3V Master Tanto
Spartan SOCP
Some kind of ~4” upswept sheepsfoot
Some kind of ~3” upswept sheepsfoot

Long utility, big tank of a knife, worrystone, midsize utility, smaller less-threatening utility. Can’t think of any realistic situations that couldn’t be addressed by some combination of those.

1) Spyderco Aqua Salt (serrated)
2) Fiddleback Forge Bishop
3) Bark River Kalahari Bushman
4) Kiku Blast
5) Bawidamann Skraeling

1. Randall Model 14
2. SOG Seal Pup Elite
3. Cold Steel Bush Ranger
4. Tops Apache Dawn (Don't have yet).
5. Gerber Prodigy (plain edge).
