5" Folder

River's Edge in Columbus, Ohio has one or two in stock right now. They will take phone orders (their website isn't set up yet).

(614) 792-EDGE (3343)

They're great people to deal with.

Thanks for the info on the swedge as well as the contact info for River's Edge. I'll give them a call and see how much they are asking.

Those guys must know they are the only people on earth that have them in stock cause they are asking $180.00 whereas all the people online that have them listed as "out of stock" had their price point right around $150.00. Of course that $180.00 does include shipping so it really probably only works out to about $20 more than the competition. Needless to say... I purchased one! It's worth the $20.00 to me to not have to wait who knows how long until Benchmade gets caught up with the market's demand. :)

I'm glad it worked out for you. I was looking at the 630 a couple of days ago at the store and the real thing is more striking than the photos. I think you're really going to like it. :)

Don't know if you've considered slip joints, but Case's Folding Hunter has two nice blades in the 4" - 5" range and the whole thing costs less than $60..

It may not have the appeal of a locking blade, but it's about as good as you can get on something traditional...

Ah I see... so if they send me the one with the fingerprints all over it then I will know it is you whom I should blame! :D

Those are nice but I swore off non-locking folders after my last set of stitches. :D

well... ya do gotta keep focused! LOL!!!! But I've also had locking folders collapse... so... no matter what you get - BE CAREFUL!!!! :D

River's Edge set me a beautiful BM630 and holy crap you guys aren't kidding... it's a monster. Who knew 4.3" could look and feel so huge?!?! ALthough I was originally looking for a 5" folder, I think the superb craftmanship on this knife more that makes up for the fact that it's only a 4.3" blade. The 0.16 blade thickness prolly helps too. After all it sure feels like 5" in the hand! :D I love it. It's the new EDC. It does however make me consider adding a teeny tiny little SAK to my EDC specifically for sheeple purposes. Not sure that I will but it is something I'm considering.

The CS Voyager in 5" is a larger knife with a torture tested lock that will hold over 100 Lbs... for 1/2 the price (!). I good friend has a Benchmade - I know they are popular but I just don't see the big deal - they seem over priced & under tested IMHO.

IIRC, the REKAT Sifu was and is legal in Texas. It has a 5.5" blade. It also has a pronounced swedge. As a matter of fact I think that the blade length was kept at that length so it would be legal in Texas.
BTW, I own two Sifu and a Camillus Madd Maxx, all with 5.5 blades. The Maxx is AWESOME and I would suggest owning to all knife knuts. :D
I need to get myself a 630 soon also!!

Great score Brian. I regularly carry a 4"+ folder...currently a 4.5" XL Deluge by DB Fraley....and I always carry a smaller knife in my left front pocket just for sheeple encounters! I'm toting a Case Gunstock pattern at the moment that works out real good. Again great score on the 630 and welcome to the world of BIG folders!! :D

Brian, I'm glad you're happy with it. I handled that knife and will attest that it's worth every penny. The materials are the best available today and the workmanship is superb. It's a lifetime-built (or more) knife. Great looking too.
Congratulations.

I think a tiny SAK (such as the Victorinox Classic) attached to the keychain is a worthy investment for most knife-knuts. (Especially those that EDC a Benchmade Skirmish :) ). There are alot of sheeple out there.

the rekat sifu, skirmish and maxx(up to a 5.5" of course, not the 'gibbs' version lol) are all legal in texas

i also pretty much prefer BM's to cold steels, just made so much better they are worth 3X the price imho.
