Quit smoking 10 weeks ago today, its been tough as I was a pack of 25 a day
smoker for over 20 years. As an incentive to help me stay off the evil weed,
I have spent the money saved on the below items:
1.Citizen 300 m Titanium Divers watch
2.Spderco Calypso Jr
3.T.H.E.Wallet Jr
4.Latherman Squirt P4
5.Photon micro light

Five very good reasons to Quit, and my overall health has improved.
I would still kill for a cigerette but it gets easier every day !!

Yes Stockman, with all that stuff, I bet it is

Good luck and keep getting more stuff!

Good for you stockman!
I quit by switching from my favorite brand to Virginia Slims Menthol Light 100s...Man those things are the most disgusting ...every time I just had to smoke a ciggy..I ended up hurling..and just like that...no more smoking....

Good for you, Stockman and Ren!!
Damn, that's a lot of stuff...and it'll last a lot longer than 10 weeks. :D

Congratulations, Stockman! My dad finally quit about 21 weeks ago and I'm still waiting to see that saved money :D

About 12 years for me. Then I became a Born Again Breather. Now I give smokers the Evil Eye if they light those nasty things near me.

It gets easier, then you'll wonder why you ever smoked. Hang in there.

You'll find it gets easier sooner if you'd stop saying things like that to yourself.

The very simple fact is nicotene is a posion and you don't need to be sucking it in.

BTW, I smoked for 40 years and I haven't touched a cigarette since Dec. 13, 2002, and you couldn't pay me enough to light another one. ;)

I smoked for 20 years. I quit on Friday the 13th of May, 1983. It took me at least 2 years to get to the point where I felt safe with not craving nicotine.

Quitting was the best thing I ever did-I probably would be dead by now if I hadn't.

Whenever you get the urge, just think of them as little white weenies that dependent people suck on. It will cure your urge and give you a good laugh when you see other addicts sucking away!

Contrats Stockman, a wise move.

I have never smoked tobacco and could never understand why anyone would want to addict themselves to a known carcinogen but i guess they thought they had a good reason at the time.

Anyway, I was sitting in the club having a beer the other day and I happened to sit near a cig. vending machine. The prices amazed me. $10 for a packet of the toxic crap! I know people who go through at least one of these a day. $70 per week. I started calculating ... in 6 weeks you could have a new Sebbie or Strider SnG or any number of nice custom knives, EVERY six weeks.

Now I sort of wish I had addicted myself years ago so now I could quit and afford all those nice knives! :)

Congratulations! After 16 years of smoking I quit for the last time on October 31, 1991 (second son's second birthday). I've often thought about how much money I've not spent since then!

It's really encouraging to hear from all of you ex-smokers, those who have beaten this addiction - well done.

You'll find it gets easier sooner if you'd stop saying things like that to yourself.
Thanks PhilL - advise taken, i will get more possitive about my outlook.

A question for all you Ex smokers - How did you control your weight gain? I have stacked on about 6 kgs (13.5 lbs), from 95kgs (213 lbs) to 101 kgs (226 lbs) in this time. Have lifted my exercise rate but just love the groceries.

Try swapping some of your more fat inducing groceries to fruit & veg groceries. A couple of apples and an orange might not be quite the same as a good rump off the barby and a stubbie or three of the frothy stuff but they will help with your mass/gravity problem.

Stockman,

Congratulations! That was the best move you'll ever make.

As to the avoirdupois situation: Try a low-carbohydrate diet. I've been on one for about 3 or 4 months and have lost 25lbs with no problems. (15 1/2 stone down to 13 stone 9lbs).

Here is anothe rvote for the low carb. I gained about 60 lbs after quitting smoking and tried to compensate by eating less meat and more beans, grains, fruit and veggies, all of which compounded my problem. It took many years until I found out that I am glucose intolerant.

For me, the Atkins diet was the answer. I am slowly getting back to where I was 20 years ago.

Been started smoking cigarettes for 12 years (one pack/day) and I am off from it since February this year. What I like about it is that I quitted the addiction. Once in a while I'd still social smoke a bit. (mostly cigars, but that's another thing anyways and I am not addicted to it too, so...) But what's new since I "quitted" is that I don't miss cigarettes anymore. Back then I would felt so insecure by knowing that I don't have any smoke with me, and I'd go get myself a pack, doesn't matter if it's already 5 am in the morning. (And even cigars won't kill that craving for cigarettes, u can ask some other smokers to see if this is true). But now it's all good.

My method of quitting was heard from a radio show one day. Wanna share it, once after u've decided to quit, whenever u feel the craving for it, simply light one up BUT, as u r puffing it away, DON't inhale any of the smoke... if it works for u, sooner or later u will find the taste of non-inhaling the smoke would be pretty yucky indeed. Should kick u out of the addiction in 3 packs, the show said. (My case was about 6 or 7, due to non-consitentcy, because if for once u can't beat the temptation of inhaling it, u will have to do a lot to make up with that).

Stockman, and all other "quitters", keep up the good work, it's worth it. Really makes me feel healthier. And if u want, try cigars instead, it really, really has nothing to do with cigerattes, though I am not encouraging anyone to pick up this habit. :)

good for you! My wife quit 2 years ago, straight up quit and she has never felt better! Paul

I have Blade Forums to thank for me quiting alittle over a year ago. It was a post with a link to the following site:

http://www.allencarrseasyway.com/

Did the online course for like $10 and was a non smoker THAT DAY!!!

I tried the patch, pills, and classes and that link did it for me. I scream it from the mountain tops today. Now I am working on the diet. Quiting smoking didn't put weight on me, marriage did.;) I have been on Adkins for 8 days and lost 9 lbs so far  I am sticking with this one until I am where I was just 2 years ago
