My dad was crushed when he found out his order for a Scrapyard War Dog was cancelled today. :grumpy: He was willing to go higher on the price because it was an INFI blade. He wants a high-quality steel, doesn't matter if it's stainless or not.

It will primarily be used for gutting deer, but it will also be used for other small cutting tasks. I'm hoping you guys can recommend something else that could take its place.

Have you checked out any of brkt's offerings? Might be a little more then 150 for a 5 inch blade though.

If he is looking at skinning deer, a Becker BK14 has been used and has said to be very comfortable while doing it as long as a handle is fashioned for it or the Izula handles are bought and put on the BK14. I have not skinned a deer with this knife but others have. Will only run you roughly $40 and is of GREAT quality steel made by KaBar. Look it up and give it a look see....

fallkniven f1 3V, barkies are nice and useful, there are some sweet customs being offered just troll the fixed blade exchange. then possibilities are endless. good luck

RMD they say more will be in the store soon ,they are alittle thick but if you want a comfortable knife that stays sharp and will never break.

I saw the inadvertent re-posting of the WarDog as available. That was indeed a bummer. What about a SY Dumpster Mutt? Lots of those floating around on the exchange here. You really can't go wrong with Fallkniven either. The S1 or F1 would suffice IMO.

Fallknivens are great, excellent steel and nice convex blades. I use my F1 quite often when hunting.

Bark River is another good brand, maybe a Fox River (one of my favourite all around knives) or a Canadian Special, which I bought on whim and found surprisingly useful. There are loads of models and handle materials to choose from, I prefer their A2 steel knives.

ESEE knives are also worth considering. The only one I'm not too fond of is the ESEE 5, which is a bit thicker than the others and sabre ground instead of full flat ground. They are quality tools made from simple materials (1095 and micarta), backed by what is probably the best warranty in the industry. It took me a while to try them out because of the coated blades, now I own 3 and will probably end up with one or more of everything they make.

The knifemakers section of the exchange is divided into fixed blades and folders.

I would say go for a fallkniven.
But instead of the f1 which is for survival I would go for the h1 which is a hunters knife.

What about the Spyderco Bill Moran knives. Within your price range, 3 7/8 VG10 blade, many seem to really like this knife.

Buck has a nice little skinner...Perfect for skinning/dressing out a deer.
