If SHTF and you could only take 5 items. What would they be and why?

For me I would have:
1) Becker BK2 for utility purposes, skinning small game, and possibly self defense if I had too
2) BB gun for hunting small game like squirrels and rabbits
3) Leatherman multitool for just about everything;)
4) ferro rod for starting fires
5) fenix PD32 for seeing at night

1. Victorinox Spirit X
2. PSK (is this one item?)
3.Condor Golok
4. 1 or2 quart SS pot
5. Ruger 10/22 with ammo.

I may have the wrong idea of what SHTF is. I'm thinking you're in the city and you have to get out and self sustain for some period of time. For that scenario, the first two things you need are transportation and firepower. Beyond that, food, water, medicines, hygiene and a change of cloths will come before a firesteel or a knife. If you're leaving and never coming back, this would be my list.

1. Firearms and plenty of ammo.
2. Shelter. A tent or better if possible.
3. Cooking and water utensils.
4. Knives and tools.
5. Medicines, food and water. This becomes #1 if your meds are critical.

You can narrow it down to one item per category, but transportation and firearms will always be at the top for me. Nothing else works if you're a defenseless sitting duck.

Wilderness
1. Woodlore bushcraft knife with ferro rod
2. Pot for boiling water and cooking
3. .22 cal. rifle and ammo
4. Para cord
5. axe

Urban
1. Woodlore bushcraft knife with ferro rod
2. Pot for boiling water and cooking
3. .22 cal. rifle and ammo
4. Sleeping bag
5. crowbar

Assuming 5 items means 5 packages (eg, an item and it's random extras in a pouch, or something), then;

1. Full size leatherman w/ all accessories.
2. My Kukri/Pendleton Lite dual carry rig.
3. My tarp shelter out of my car (12x9 tarp rolled up with tent stakes inside and 60 feet of paracord in several pieces around the outside.)
4. My MSR water kit. 4 liter bladder rolled up around the hydration tube & filter.
5. A case of MRE's.

Between all of that, I should be able to survive until I can start making more tools and scavenging for more supplies.

Urban
1. My First Aid kit
2. Crow bar
3. Lock picks
4. Ruger 10/22
5. A ESEE 5.
Wildlife
1. Fire starter
2. Katadyn filter.
3. Ruger 10/22
4. Two hundred feet of paracord
5. An axe.

Get rid of your BBgun and get a nice 10/22. Around the same weight but packs a much heavier punch. Plus, you can find ammo practically anywhere. The Ruger 10/22 is like the AK-47 of .22 rifles.

1. compound bow
2. Bark river machete
3. ultralight sleeping bag - rated to -5 degrees Celsius
4. Fire kit
5. tarp

With this I'd have shelter and fire all sorted so water and food would be what I have to worry about.

The machete will do all of my cutting chopping tasks. Also can be self defense weapon.

Bow for hunting and self defense.

Tarp can double as shelter and water collection.

I hate these questions.

How is it that you can only take five things. I got so many items on my person that is for camping survival bushcraft what ever you want to call it for situations just like this as I sit here writing and watching the walking dead.

I would have to strip down to even comply.

Not going to do it lol.

Bryan

Bark River Fox River
Gransfors Bruks Scandanavian forest Axe
Heavy duty tarp
ruger .22 pistol and a pile o ammo
firekit

I kind of like these threads as it shows what Items are most important to others for survival and it might make us rethink our priorities. People can be caught off guard in a survival situation, too, so the kitchen sink isn't always an option. It's like asking "what's your favourite knife?" with a cool twist.

I feel the same way. People ask and I'm like, "What don't I have on me that I'd want...?" :p

4" fixed blade
Pocket knife
draw knife
Camp axe
My bow and arrows

Can't think of what I can't make that I need with these items.

Sounds like a good system, but what about clean water and fire? Key essentials to life. I'll give you a charcoal sand filter but, what about cooking and boiling water? I'm not sure how good you are at making fire with just sticks, but wouldn't it be nice to ditch one of your knives for a ferro rod.

Top 5 items?

Is my truck one item?
If it is....
1. My truck
2. A trailer full of fuel
3. Beer
4. Bikini Girls (2 of them)
5. See 4

:D

Really though
Is this a bug out fantasy? Because for me that's not an option. I have everything I need. I guess a few pallets of ammo, food, water, beer would be okay though.

My truck has my main ham radio, so +1 on that one.

As to the bb gun / .22, I have a Marlin Papoose breakdown .22, it's great.

A good high power spring .22 pellet gun is good for small game too,
but I'm thinking that if things happened to really go south (which isn't going to happen)
you might want a gun around for more than just shooting bunnies.

The short answer is NOPE. I can spin fire from sticks, spark up fire with chert and cabon steel, and humans are the biggest pigs to ever inhabit the earth. Lots of things to boil water in just laying around. Water can be boiled in a bark container too if need be. Like I said, can't think of anything I can't make with that set of tools.

Just five items, huh? I'm presuming that means you'd have the clothes on your back, belt, boots or shoes?

1.Equipped fixed-blade knife. :D (Seen quite a few come with a pouch and ferro-rod attatched. Some with a piggyback so :-P)
2.Reliable multi-tool
3.A tough backpack
4.Bedroll rolled up in a tarp
5.Reliable handgun w/extra clip (and CCW permit :-P)

My child
My wife
Turn truck sideways in the driveway and go back inside to drink beer while it is still cold
Sit back and enjoy the show as all the crazies head out to the woods to make a stick shelter. I'll be busy refueling my generator for my AC units

Grease, I agree with ya. After years of study and practice, I carry what I carry, because I know what I want at all times with me lol.

Ridiculous question. I would never "just" take five items, ever... I take that many to the bathroom when I use it. I have five items in my pocket right now and I'm sitting and typing.

My van would be loaded to the roof and I'd probably pull a trailer if I had to leave my home and believe me it will hold a lot of stuff. Abandon it.... no, someone would have to take it from me. It would become my new home.

Ok... Food, a 22 Mag rifle with ammo, Blackjack 125 knife, Vic SAK, fuel.
