5-Max under $100 new , too good to be true ? Premium version , not the Scout .

First knife I've ordered in almost 7mo ! Caught the fever when I saw the listing . :oops:

I'm afraid now it may be a clone . Freaking Ebay ! :mad:

I'll post pics when she arrives , unless the fake is obvious to me .

After I put in a "best offer" , I noticed a number of other relatively cheap 5-Max listings that look similar . Damn good looking fake... if it is . 🤷‍♂️

I just finished the due diligence research I should have done before pulling the trigger .

Now I'm next to certain it's a clone . Already sent a request to cancel order to seller ,with warning I'd return and give negative feedback, if a clone received .

7 months away and I forgot how to buy a knife ! :rolleyes: Dang .
 
Order cancelled by seller as requested and refund already received ! :cool:

Hopefully I have now relearned what I already knew for years !

I was actually looking for a 5 Max Scout, but not sure they're much available yet ?

I had a similar experience with a Benchmade and eBay. Only double checking after the fact. The seller, eBay, and PayPal did nothing for me, but Amex had my back.
 
I'm a massive ebay user, both buyer and seller, but knives i almost exclusively ignore on there. Or popular ones at least, like Cold Steel and Benchmade, as ebay doesnt do much for clones and its extremely bad with the larger brands. Things like We or Protech are usually fine, but dont touch the rest. Or be very very careful and check the prices against actual sale prices on other sites, alongside MSRP.

^^^Makes good sense. The clones these days , at least the pics , are just too true looking . Box and all . :(

However , normally , I would have spotted this fraud within minutes . All my fault . I just didn't check at all . Not the negative feedback for seller ,nor similar "sold " old listings . It was all right there to be found .

I've never been fooled , when on my game , bargain hunting . It's a big part of the fun of shopping , for me , normally . Finding a great bargain , sorting out the genuine wheat from the clone chaff . 😼

Sure , I love saving money ;but the chase and the challenge is at least as important for me . :cool:
 
Yeah, that's a crazy price for a 5 Max. I have seen some price drop on things like the Mayhem, but that big ol' chonker of S35VN, steel liners, and G10 is gonna be hard to find for cheap. I really like mine, but I struggle with what to use it for. Heavier than a fixed blade of similar size, but man, if you only had that on your person, there isn't much you couldn't do knife wise.

I'm all in on the Scout version when it finally drops.

I hear ya. I think best bets are overstock reductions and closeouts from normal dealers and hunting that way
..on new and unused. days of big discounts are bout gone for many reasons.
