5 min 400 degrees in the oven and it sliped out no problem...
A little epoxy and... Perfect!

or just heat the base with a lighter...20 seconds tops and it'll come right off :D

+1 on the Bic lighters. LOL! Not just for this but just to have as your fire starting tool. I keep several in my go bag. I washed one in the washing machine accidentally one time. Took it out of the pants they were and it sparked right up.
 
Nice looking rod.. err, firestarter. Although I would have also just used the bic, but whatever works.
 
Great job! I just hit it out with a hammer...hah! I replaced mine with a 4" misch metal rod from goinggear.com
 
This made me finally break down and order a ESEE fire kit and a 3" misch rod from goinggear. I couldn't resist any longer. :)
