Fairly new to knife making. My question is : Is slower setting epoxy (15 min. to 60 min.) OK to use on handle scales? I'd like a little more time to assemble. It seem like most use 5 min. epoxy. Also are there any brands I should stay away from? Thanks

There is significantly less strength in fast cure. The better epoxies are over 1 hour cure time, and 24 hour is preferred. 5 minute epoxy sets too fast for any proper assemble.

Remember that the time listed is time to cure, not work time.

The work time is something like:
5 min = 1 minute work time
30 min = 5 minute work time
1 hour = 10 minute work time
24 hour = 2-3 hour work time

<15 minute epoxy is for TV competitions under time constraints, in my opinion.

When I use Corby bolts I use 5 minute Loctite epoxy. Saves time. I use G-flex for everything else. Larry

I wouldn't use 5min epoxy. Aside from the fact that it is weaker than 24 hour, you risk having the epoxy set before you are done and having your work ruined. Don't ask me how I know that o_O
