5 Must Haves

Wow! I have got probably 300 knives or so, but it look like there is not a single list here where I would have four hits, three at most! And the other two knives: something that I simply would not care about!

Out of my collection...

Balisong: PCC Jody Samson 4" weehawk with skeletonized SS handles.

Switchblade: 2003 Microtech Scarab.

Exotic tactical folder: Warren Thomas T-Rex.

Small slipjoint: Jerzeedevil SAK Classic.

Fixed blade combat knife: Cattaraugus 225Q.

for me its simple

Ti-Lock
Lg Regular Sebenza
Lg Sebenza 25
Scott Cook Lochsa
Ray Laconico Jasmine (made it on his list but still waiting...I hope)

All very subjective of course but I'll give an off the cuff opinion:

Para 2
940 Osbourne
Barrage 586
Gayle Bradley
Leatherman

Have all except the Gayle Bradley!
Agree in most acounts, but kind of like the ZT's over the Para 2, even though they're pricier.

ZT 0550
940 Osborne
Para 2
Barrage
Leatherman

1) small inlay sebenza
2) large inlay sebenza
3) MLL desert gobi
4) MLL scandi
5) misono swedish sujihiki

For me:
Busse AK47
Busse B11/B10/BM or KZ
Busse Steel Heart or Natural Outlaw
Busse Badger
Busse *Street or Scrapyard SS4

For folders I'm completely happy with a G10 UKPK and M390 PM2, but i do use a Leatherman Juice or Victorinox SAK occasionally.

For newer people looking for must try, I would recommend :
Swamprat Waki, RMD(can't possibly recommend enough), Scrapyard 711, Fiddle back Forge machetes, and a nice small fixed Blade in the 2.5"-4" range

Sebenza, PM2, UKPK/Caly/Chaparral /Sage

HMMM:
1.Small Sebenza
2.Sebenza 25
3.Mammoth Mnandi
4.Lochsa
5.Kingdom Armory HOG

I see a lot of very expensive knives in these lists. In my opinion, for a must have, there should be no reason that you cannot get one. Not everybody can justify or afford a 400 dollar knife.
I suppose my list is as follows.
Opinel.
Leatherman or SAK.
Mora.
Svord.
BM Grip.

*Pohan Leu Bluephin(3.25")
*Les George FM1....Damascus and Ivory
*Andrew Demko AD10
*Matt Lamey Custom Bowie
*Mason Leeth Custom Bowie

At the beginning of this thread, I though you wanted people to comment on your "5 must haves". Well, I own a SAK. I do own a SOG multi tool, and a Gerber. But it is not close to a must have for me.

My must haves chage almost yearly with experience. Right now (1) 111mm SAK, (2) Spyderco Delica, (3) GEC Missouri Trapper, (4), Kabar Becker BK-16, (5) a good short machete, currently Condor Pack Golok or Village Parang. You'll notice there is not a single assisted opener on this list. I find them un-necessary. I actually EDC a custom fixed blade at times and it is not on my "must have" list but it is my favorite fixed blade.

Interesting take on the "desert island knives" theme:

1. Spyderco DragonFly 2 ZDP-189
2. Spyderco Salt 1 serrated
3. Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in 20CP steel
4. Spyderco Temperance 2
5. A Leatherman

TedP

Strider SnG
ESEE Izula
Spyderco Gayle Bradley
Benchmade 162
Benchmade minigrip
Spyderco dragonfly2 zdp-189
The rest I can live without.

It's two in the morning and drinking I've been maybe.

The only one I see that is a common enough occurance that it could be considered a must have, and regardless of all the special custom names bandied about, one that damn near everyone has, is a SAK.
I know its a thread on the 5 must haves, but this is just a measuring contest now, to see who has the most expensive customs.
Sure, I would not like to go up against anyone wielding a machete with a SAK, but if MacGuyver could make a plan...
The other 4 are all subjective- sub in what you want.
