I sent letters to a few knife companies, Spyderco being one of them. I was deployed in Mosul as an infantryman with the 101st ABN DIV. The letters were simple, stating that I'm a soldier in Iraq and also a knife knut who will come home sometime with a lot of money to spend... that being the case, I'd like some catalogues or anything to look at while I'm here. (or something to that effect)
A few months later I got a package that I was not expecting. It was from Golden, CO. Inside was 5 OIF s30v full serrated Natives. There was also a letter from Sal himself thanking me for my service and explaining that one of the knives was mine, and that the other four are for my fire team. Some months after that, mine was stolen off my body armor, but the other guys returned home with their's.
I thought I'd tell this story, since I read the thread in general on ethics of knifemakers.
 Sal, thank you.

PS... the only other company that wrote back was Camillus/Western.
