50-60 Bucks to spend Byrd, CS, or SOG?

I vote for the Byrd.
Thanks!
Love the "bacon" signature by the way!
A friend of mine is pregnant and has been having bacon cravings.
I showed her your icon and she cracked up laughing.
Did you do that Bacon flow chart thats been floating around?
I sent her that two, she found that funny as well.
:)

thanks for the input and pics BTII!
I think the holes could be modded if i find them too bothersome.
I had an old Spyderco Dyad and the double bladed aspect does make it different ergonomically for sure.
I did get used to it though and i actually miss that knife a lot (it got lost when i moved back here from Ontario).
:(
Talking about tacky one of the reasons i like the SOG Twitch II is because its one of the few SOG's these days that doesn't have those cheesy SOG cutouts all over it.
The cutouts and excessive branding are a good part of the reason i haven't bought a SOG in 8 (?) years!

I bet the holes work just fine, but in terms of looks argghhh. I'd like to see a mod of them if by chance you ever went that route. It would be beyond my ability to recover them to suit my eye.

I've never owned a double bladed Spyderco. Not that I think that the knife as a whole couldn't work hard, but I think the blades shapes lend themselves to fairly light duties anyway, so the unusual grip may not be that important. In fact, when I look at that I think of a knife that would do great on flesh and gristle especially.

SOG has proved to be one of the biggest disappointments out there as far as my knife buying goes. I've owned quite a few SOGs. I carried the old Government for ages, and it was a simple elegant solution that was ideal for my needs. I ground the serrations of a NW Ranger and that made a fine field knife. Even the old FRN Air SOG was a lovely stow away little knife. The stuff they are coming out with now frankly disgusts me. I know many of us probably in part brought it on ourselves by repeatedly requesting a bit better steel. When that came it came at the cost to the designs. I would rather they have stuck with AUS6, or 12C27, or 440A, with a good design and solid heat treat than way they have gone. BRKT does exactly that, and you see few objections to their implementation of 12C27 on well designed users. I just can't be part of those clown things SOG are making now. Of those that are left that are still any good I'd almost certainly buy something very similar, just as well made, and also from Seki. [last bit touched mini-rant, oops].

byrd
I would take just about any variation of a spyderco over either of the other two. Just my .02

Bought a black rock hunter like a month ago and it went through canadian customs just fine. Just depends i guess.
However, i will have to go with the byrd knife, love the spyderco look.

From the three.I would go for the SOG.If I had to choose - Buck 110/112 or a Trapper pattern slipjoint in carbon steel. :)

Whatever one i pick i'm pretty sure it will be used for hiking camping, not edc.

If this is the requirement, then I'd pick the Byrd too. Spyderco makes a good product (I love my Byrd Meadowlark) and the two blades might come in more handy in a hiking environment.

Yeah i have a few old school SOG's which i like a lot, an old Paratool, A Desert Dagger and a first Gen Tomcat.
A buddy of mine has a few as well including a a nice limited Run Blued SOG Tigershark and the SOG Pentagon.
However the newer stuff with all the cutouts and the excessive labeling hasn't appealed to me at all. Too Bling-y, lol.
i hate excessive labeling on ANYTHING.
I have a tendency to cut labels off clothing because they make me feel like i'm a billboard. lol.
Some restrained labeling is fine but some companies go overboard with it.
Too much labeling makes me feel they should be paying me an advertising fee if i use the item in public.
:D
Every now and then SOG comes out with something i almost like but they usually put one or two things in the design that turn me off. They seem to have a compulsion to put serrations or saw teeth on everything.

The Twitch II which i like is actually surprisingly free of cutouts/labels and serrations!

Some of their fixed blades are still nice too, i kinda like the Sog Tech Bowie and the Super Sog Bowie.

Hmm thats 10-1 in favor of the Byrd.
I think we have a winner!
Its done, the order has been placed.
This time next week it should be in my mailbox!
Thanks for all the great input !

i'll post pics when i get it.
:D
