+1 for the needs work! i have one with the black blade. and as all of my kershaws it came " " sharp

If it is a 2007 or later production run the blur's should have rubber inserts, not grip tape

You guys are full of suggestions! I think I'm going to go crazy, my list is of 20 odd knives!

One thing though, no Sypderco as I mentioned. No good reason, I just don't like the looks of them is all.

Also that Needs Work is an odd looking knife, looks kind of big for EDC.

Ahh, well then that changes things!

The Needs Work is one of my favorite EDCs. Its a good size for EDC. Not as big as it looks. I thought it looked funny when I first saw it, but the odd looks actually kind of grew on me after I started using it. Very ergonomic and a good shape for cutting, scraping, scoring, etc. The G10 version is the one to get if you can find one. Here's a pic with the OD-1 Orange (another good EDC), Needs Work, ZT 0350 (good heavy duty EDC), 2445 (nice inexpensive manual opening framelock), and Random Leek (a great EDC and work knife, too).

I hope you just don’t judge knives on how they look. You really have to hold a knife in your hand and open en close it a few times to make the best judgment.

Looking at pictures is no substitute. Also some knives look better in the store than on the internet or in a catalogue :-)

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with Benchmade or Kershaw. I would spend more for a MiniGrip if Spyderco really isn’t an option.

Thanks for your descriptions and the comparison pic. Out of all of those the 2445 (Salvo) looks the best to me.

Yes, I'm afraid so. :o

I know that is offensive to you knife lovers (just as it is to me, being an audiophile, if someone picks a piece of gear, speakers for instance, mainly on their looks when there are much better sounding options...but then so what? it's their money, choice, and loss...not mine), but keep in mind this is going to be carried in my pocket and forgotten. It is there for peace of mind, not daily use. I don't want something that will just fall apart if I need it though, and I'm sure all the knives I'm looking at won't. But I don't need to cut down and carve up trees into fine furniture daily with it either.

Going to try to make up my mind this week, been busy.

I'll be +3 on the Needs Work! I just got this knife 2 days ago, and it's already one of my favorites.

I was surprised how thinly it is ground. Its edge is thinner than both of my FFG Spyderco Delicas

The grip is VERY ergonomic. It's only a 3 full-finger grip, and the thumb jimping is useless, but the handle is shaped SO well that none of that matters; it locks into your hand anyway.

The AO action has a very nice kick to it. I'm not a fan of AO, but I have to say that with the flipper, the AO on the Needs Work has been implemented very well.

The only thing I would change is the clip... I find the clip a bit difficult to get onto my pocket.

Also, I prefer the FRN ("plastic") to the G10. If the G10 is anything like that of the Avalanche's, then it's way too grippy and will probably shred my pockets in a week. That's my opinion, though.

So there. If you don't mind the clip and the lack of belly on the blade, then the Needs Work is a home run.

Spyderco Temperence. Done.

***Ahhhh, didnt see your Spyderco caveat, until after.***

In that case Kershaw has many options within your window.

So I'm still here, just taking my time.

I'm really looking at the Clash and Volt II.

Other Kershaws look great too, but don't have a good finger guard.

The Volt...of those two. Good solid value and great knife.
