$50 dollar knife shop sanders

I was wondering if anyone has tried to build any of the belt sander designs that were shown in the $50 dollar knife shop? and are there any suggestions on making my own grinder for fairly cheap? And how does wood hold up as grinder frames?

Wow, thats a lot of home-made grinder awesomeness. I'm going to need a few more motors ;P
