Recommendation? $50-ish

Ontario Dozier Arrow. D2, taiwan, great designer, good knife <$50.

With everyone recommending modern and tactical style folders, I guess I'll be the first to offer a dissenting opinion.
It's a father's day present. I say go elegant and classy.
Case Copperlock.
Or maybe a nice SAK alox for around the $30-35 mark, and then get an engraving on the flat spot. Something that commemorates the gift.

The way I see it, I can get myself beater and hard edc use knives. If my family is giving me a knife, I want something elegant and something that I can use frequently and think about what a thoughtful and special gift it is. To me, traditional, classy knives do that more than knives with plastic handles. Especially when the SAK Alox can be engraved on the flat spot in a way that will always denote what a special gift it is. Imagine what it would mean to them when some day they get it back, well used/loved and with that engraving that shows what they gave you so many years before.

maybe a good multi-tool if he doesn't have one and would use, Spyderco has a good selection under 60 - df2, manbug, tenacious, byrd line. If you think he'd like a traditional new Case knives are in your budget, you could also probably find used GECs (some of the new ones are in the 70-80 range, if you could stretch or maybe deal there's a #14 on the exchange for 75)

My Real Steel Sea Eagle has quickly become one of my favorite knives. And it rubs elbows with some really amazing mid-techs and custom knives. It holds it's own! Definitely buying a second RS Sea Eagle!

I'll give another vote for the Kershaw Knockout. Can't get much more for the money! Thin, light with an excellent blade profile and a fun fondler!!
I got the OD green with black blade for $45 off the Exchange......my son spotted it and I haven't see. It since!!
Definitely picking up another!!
The Link is another winner!!
Joe

I've got a brown Kershaw Knockout with an Elmax blade and think it is the bees knees of a knife. Great ergos, not too heavy, excellent fit and finish, and the best budget folder Kershaw EVER made. I love it!!

Hey fellas, looking for recommendations on the best knives in the $50 dollar range. (Current items for sale on the forums are welcome too) nothing under 3" blade ideally closer to 3.5". My wife has asked me to give her some fathers day gift ideas and naturally my first thought is a new knife. Lol
Only knife that's really caught my attention so far is a Real Steel H5...

For 20 bucks or so you can get a Byrd Cara Cara 2 with FRN, and for 32 bucks you can have it with G10. For 60 bucks you can get titanium! https://www.knifeworks.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=Byrd+Cara+Cara

Give them a number of options so they can 'surprise' you. :)

I would throw into the mix the all stainless Kiwi3. It is a great little slipjoint that I use as a "dress knife" on the rare occasions I get all spiffed up, or go someplace a fixed or locking knife is frowned upon. It is sleek, handles well, and won't scare most non-knife people. There is also enough room to can get it engraved with something special.

A little late to the party being father's day is Sunday, but a $50 e-gift card to bladeHQ is great for a last minute option?

Kizlyar UTE is a solid knife as well, right on budget.

I gave my wife some options, (2 modern, 2 traditional) and she let our 3 1/2 year old son choose. So we will see what he chose, pretty excited about it :)
I'll let you guys know what it is when it gets here. It won't be here until next week but better late than never lol
Hope you all have an awsome fathers day weekend!

He chose a Case Mini Copperlock in CV with dark red bone covers
Thanks for all the recommendations everyone, several of these knives are now on my list of "affordables".

Another vote for the Rat 1 in D2. I'd definitely spend a few more dollars for the D2 vs the Aus8. Perfect for your budget and one of the best bangs for the buck in the knife world.

Seriously, the copperlock is a classy and classically styled knife. Your son has good taste, and some day it'll be nice to inherit an heirloom that is worthy of being an heirloom!
