I know this is a very broad question, but it is meant to be.

Please let me know your favorite knife that costs 50 bucks or a little more. It has to be readily available so i can get it before christmas.Steel does not matter,so does the fact of fixed or folder.

Thanks for any info!!

I'm going to go with TLC on this one. Amber bone would be a close second. CV all the way though.

For just a few bucks more, I'd get the Queen Cattle King. $59.95 + s/h at knifecenter.com. I've bought quite a few stockman knives lately as I've gotten back into slipjoints, and the Queen is one of the best two purchases I've made. (The other was a Schatt & Morgan in ATS-34, but it was well above your price range.)

Spend the extra $15 and get a Queen stag stockman in D2. You won't regret it.

Queen #9 large stockman. Cumberland has it for $48 for stag bone, $45 for cocobolo. D2 rocks!

onawa, I suggested the stockman because of its versatility. The three different blades are useful for different cutting tasks. It's my favorite pattern. YMMV. Whatever you pick, a Case in CV or a Queen in D2 should serve you well, and both should be within (or close to) your price limit.

I suggested the trapper because I'm on a trapper/moose/muskrat kick right now. They are each good patterns but are probley a little better suited for the hunter/trapper. The stockman is a good "do all" pattern that I am sure you will like. Everybody, and I mean everybody, should have a nice trapper tho.;)

I like stockmans like everybody else, but I like the safety of a locked blade. I rarely use the two smaller blades on a three blade knife.

So my pick would be one of the two that I rely on:
Case large copper lock or the Kershaw blackout

Helle Jegermester or Queen Canoe
2 of my favorites for 50 or so bucks

Thanks guys, all great suggestions. I never realized you could get so much fo 50 bucks or so,this is going to be tougher than I thought.

Can't really go wrong with:

Buck 110 or 112 (right around $30-$35)
Buck Stockman 301 or smaller brother 303 Cadet (right around $25.00 + or - each)
SAK of nearly any configuration though I like my Tinker $18.00 (on sale regularly for just under $10.00)
I really like my Boker Stockman 7474JRBI carbon steel blades (around $35-$45)

If you want a fixed blade, the Buck Special, Pathfinder, or Woodsman are all under $50. In particular, the 119 Special is a lot of knife for the money.

Happy shopping!
