Hi Folks,

Talking with Sid and Keri this weekend and they have newly rebuilt 50# New Style Little Giant available for purchase.

They are asking $4800 for it. Sid recently completed rebuilding this hammer from the frame up. I've followed Sid's progress on this hammer and when I say it is in new condition that's an understatement.

Sid or Keri can be reached at 402-873-6603.

I hope to have pictures of this hammer later in the week.

Thanks for looking

And a Nicer Little Giant doesn't exist. These rebuilts are much better hammers than
they were when they left the factory years ago.

Here are the pictures that I promised. This weekend was annual rebuilding class and I had the chance to take a couple of photos of the hammer.

Thanks for looking

It was a good time had by all. There was quite a few folks interested in knives there. So there was no lack of discussions going on.

I've heard a few say Sid's hammers are expensive. Well, they are less expensive than the last printed price list from the original Little Giant factory from the 80s'. Sid starts with a used frame in good condition and builds a brand new hammer, he also builds to much closer specs than the originals. In this day and age it's very hard to find heavy machinery that is still made in the USA, this means a lot to me and should for all Americans.

After rebuilding a 25# years ago, I realized Sid's price was cheap and bought a rebuilt 25# from him. After getting a decent deal on a 100# and rebuilding it, I had over $4000 and many, many hours invested. As a fulltime maker, my time is worth much more making knives, and not rebuilding hammers :) A few years ago I started talking to Sid about a brand new 100# hammer, I'll have it soon

Sid and Keri are a huge asset to us LG owners, making parts and hammers available to all for close to 20 years.

Thanks Don, I don't have a Little Giant but a appreciate your perspective.

When I was speaking with Keri this weekend she stated they haven't increased their prices in over seven years.

Don is right when he says Sid builds them to closer tolerances. Most of the holes on original hammers were as cast. When Sid rebuilds them he cleans the holes and fits the pins so you won't get any slop.

Don touched on another good point just the cost of parts to rebuild one. If you buy one used the main things you need to replace are the motor, dies which in some cases are the main reason for damage to other parts such as arms and ram guides short die height can cause a lot of damage, a new spring is always recommended (you have to remember on old machines this spring might have been in there for 50 years or more), treadle rod and any numerous bolts. These are just the minor things that add up. I once figured on a 25# hammer that if I bought a used hammer for $1200 I should just get a new rebuilt from Sid for $3800 because I'd have the same money in it without all my time.

Just a few things to look at.

I agree about buying one from Sid... Wish I would have just saved up and done it that way. You get one that's "plug'n'play" when you get it from Sid.

Both of mine needed parts and still need parts... and that costs money, but even more costly to me, it TAKES TIME to get it done.

I bought a transitional style 50# LG for $1500. This was a fair deal as the frame is beautiful, the ram guide is still nice and snug with shims, and it wasn't abused in a production shop.

However, it needs a motor, a motor mount (I can build this), a new spring, new toggle arms, adjustable toggle links, new bearings poured, the clutch needs to be re-poured, then bored to size, it could use new pins, it needs dies.... By the time you do all that, I could have easily bought the hammer in this thread... And be ready to go other than a foundation.

I want that hammer! :grumpy: :)

I want to thank everyone for their interest and insight.

I'm sure if Sid has another one available he'll let me know.

I'm glad it went to knife maker

Thanks again
