my family draws names for Christmas each year with a $50 limit. Last year I asked for a knife and my uncle got me a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. I think he forgot about the $50 limit or got a great deal. Anyway, I have that knife and a Spyderco Dragonfly SE, a CRKT M16-edc (don't like it), and some other crap knives before I had a clue. My brother-in-law drew my name this year. What's the best knife available for a total of $50, shipping and all. I'm open to any suggestions, brands, knives, whatever. I'm even leaving it open ended for fixed/folding, size, everything.
What's the best knife out there for $50?

the spyderco delica and the spyderco centofante series are both right at 50 and would be very good knives for the money.

Well basically any of the spyderco byrd knives, or maybe a kershaw JYD1m spyderco cricket, boker subcom

right on guys, those are some quick replies. my B-I-L wants some ideas so that's what i'm looking for here.
I"ve never had a Spyderco Byrd, are they as good as the original?

Here are some you can find for around $50. Kershaw JYD2, Blade-Tech Pro Hunter Lite, Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara G10, Kershaw Whirlwind, Benchmade Vex, Boker Trance. I am sure there are plenty more but these are a few to think about. The AG Russell Feather-Lite is great if you dont need a clip. Good Luck! Kevin:)

I guess one has to ask what kind of knife? For edc folding I would get a SAK cybertool 34.
Tacticools are fun, but I use the sak more than I did any of the many tacticals I've had.
For 50.00 I'm not sure what fixed edc, probably a TOPS Wolf Pup.

If he shops around he could get you two nice Gentleman's carry, those being the Buck Mayo Hilo and the Buck Mayo Cutback basically the same knife in two sizes appropriate for the task of the day. If I was to get a $50.00 knife the Spyderco Native is always at the top of my list.

Best Regards,
Matador-

I'll have to nominate the Keshaw Junkyard Dog II. I just picked a new one up for $45 and it is fantastic!

i'm thinking i'll try the spyderco delica, byrd's w/ G10 handles, AG Russel, Kershaw JYD, Boker trance, SAK's, Buck's, and see what happens.
before this advice i was going to ask for 'anything spyderco or benchmade'. now i'll be on the lookout for all these knives.
thanks. any more tips?

Kershaw Leek, JYD2, Mini Cyclone, Boker Trance, Wharcom / Subcom, Endura, 2 Byrds, Kabar TDI, Buck Hartsook, Buck 110, Victorinox Soldier, Trekker, Scandi knife by Helle / Brusletto / Mora etc from www.ragweedforge.com

+1 on the scandis and Byrds although the G10 Byrds are getting close to the FRN Spydercos like the Endura(a true classic) at 49.99 at New Graham.

A non knife suggestion is the Fenix lights and I got one with their little folder which was one of the best little knives I have ever seen. My Mom liked the Fenix folder so much she swiped it. It even has first rate G10 scales.

Another non knife suggestion would be H&B Hawks.

Buck 110 or 119

I cant believe noone said the spyderco walmart native with s30v steel. You are going to be hard pressed to find a better quality built knife with a comparable or better steel then s30v for 50 dollars or less. However its one of those designs either you love or hate.

BM Grip, Kershaw Leek, and Spyderco Native

Those three have to got to be the best deals from each respective brand. Tried the first 2, now I just have to try the 3rd.

+1 for Kershaw Leek. Excellent knife for the money and great design.
